You can train for months and years — put in the miles, fine-tune every detail, show up as strong and prepared as possible — and still, race day can take an unexpected turn. That’s the reality of ultrarunning. It’s raw, unpredictable, and no matter how ready you are, the race can go any direction.
That’s part of the magic, and part of the challenge. You never quite know how your body will respond, or what unexpected turns the trail might bring. For Adrian, this race didn’t unfold the way he’d hoped and he went to some dark places on the trail. But it’s in those moments — when things go sideways, when the miles feel endless and every step hurts — that the true spirit of an ultrarunner shows. A spirit we saw from so many people over the past two days.
To witness Adrian’s journey over the past few months has been a privilege. The work he put in, the sacrifices made, and the quiet grind. It was all there. And when things got tough, he didn’t quit. He pushed on with heart, grit, and an unwavering commitment to finish what he started.
This sport isn’t just about podiums or personal records. It’s about resilience, it’s about showing up, especially when it’s hard. To see Adrian get across the finish line last night, with his friends and family beside him, was a memory we will hold on to as a reminder of moving forward when the times get tough.
It takes a village and it was a joy to get to know the incredible people in his corner - the crew, the friends, the family and fellow runners who remind us that no one runs these races alone.
Adrian, your perseverance inspires us. Your story is far from over, in fact, it’s just getting started. Thank you for showing us all what it takes.
