I've always been a creative, even before I was creative for work.

As a little kid, I was constantly getting into crafts - coloring, painting, making dolls out of toilet paper rolls and scrap fabric.

As I got a older, I drew fantasy drawings of dragons and fae creatures, wrote awful fiction, and started taking photos of everything.

As a teen and young adult, I dove into music and photography.

And then I made it my job.

And I still love it, but as creatives, even a professional ones, we need a place to play. We need places where it's okay to suck at what we're doing.

In this season of early motherhood, it's been my kids' birthday cakes, my garden, cozy games, and even social media content.

What are your non-work creative outlets?

What are you letting go of today?

Anyone else feel like they don't have any interesting content to record??

I'm challenging myself to record one day in my life each week.

Time to flex my content creator muscles for MYSELF - not just my clients.

What do you think? Should we stick with cell phone style content or do I pull out the big camera for these?

What happens when you stop worrying so much about what you're supposed to be posting on social media and just ... post?

Shout-out to Turbo Dad Restorations for always believing in me while utterly kicking my ass at content creation. ❤️

We're going to get deep into the "what we learned" part of this experiment, but here's my biggest takeaway:

There's a time and a place for all of it.

Polished, personal, messy, story-driven, showing off, education, trends, jokes, experiments... ALL OF IT

So before we get too deep:

What's easiest for you to implement?
a) Break it down by platform
b) Break it down by content type
c) Break it down by post topic (i.e. polished, story-driven, trends)

SPOILER: If you're burned out on social media, I highly recommend giving this a shot.

I don't love social media. So I did an experiment.

My husband is a micro-influencer. I've been watching him succeed on social media for about 2 years now, going viral every month or two with reels that he spends hours on each week.

But instead of trying to be like him, I went the opposite direction with this experiment.

I decided to throw out everything I know and just post what I think is fun, interesting, or just simply makes me happy.

No marketing plan. No rules. Just a mix of joy and art aimed in the general direction of my business.

To be completely honest, the results were a mixed bag. But the biggest outcome was gold. Ready for a good old pro/con list? Let's go.

PROS:
🤖 I've completely stopped using AI for brainstorming, drafting, or polishing captions for social media. Everything you see is 100% me.
🤳🏻 My feed looks fairly polished, which makes me happy.
🍪 Engagement is on the rise.
🥳 I'm starting to be able to see what different platforms want from me.

CONS:
🥸 What makes me happy is design and art. I've lost some of the raw ME in my content, especially in posts.
🧠 I haven't gotten significant views or business directly from this experiment, just engagement, confidence, and knowledge.

GAME CHANGER:
🏆️ This takes the cake: It's been easy to be consistent for the first time since I was a running my wedding photography account.

I'll be sharing more about what I learned, but I'm curious: which format is easier for you to go back and reference:
a) Carousels
b) Reels that feel like real life
c) Reels w/ a cover photo that explains what the reel is about

I can't say I'm surprised...

Good news:
1) I can work sitting down today 🥳
2) Chicken soup with chicken from May Hill Farm for every meal.

Today's agenda:
- Prepping for a full site review with Howard Johnson Flooring, LLC
- Website design sprint for Turbo Dad Restorations
- Time allowing, working on edits for Custom Cabinetry by Bigfoot Construction and Finished Carpentry Inc

What's on your agenda? 💪🏻

I said the weird thing. 🍸

Honorable mentions:
🫒 My signature cocktail is a "dirty thirty," which is just a dirty gin martini with as many olives as I can fit in the glass. Martini optional.
🦆 We have a duck decoy in our pond named Gerald. His wife, Geraldine, sank to the bottom and we haven't been able to get her out.
👻 I didn't believe in ghosts until we moved into our 1870s farmhouse.
👩🏻‍🔬 I'm a big space nerd. In my next life, I'll be an astrophysicist.
☀️ I actually love keeping most of my life off of social media and just living it.
