This is the most consequential year in my lifetime. And while I honestly feel exhausted, I promise to take the next step forward. This one and the next - we will march forward and overcome, deal with injustices and make the best of the situations. Because that’s who we are. All of us, we never fail to overcome.
I have everlasting faith that we overcome. That we step up to do better. That we fight racism, and take a stance for actively anti-racist ideals. I have always been idealistic, and that means fighting for the best possible outcome even if that’s not where we’re at as a nation. So be it I’ll take a step in the right direction. And that’s where I believe we’re at. Asking the tough questions and moving towards the better.
If I can ask you one thing it would be to educate yourself on where we’re at and make personal moves to empathize with your black brothers and sisters across America and see their longtime struggle. Their disadvantages. Because I have seen them and they are an enormous injustice, and we need to do better.
So far we have made progress, but that’s not enough. Police brutality and racism needs to be rooted out at the source, and that involves police unions and the police departments that cover this country. We need to re-assess, re-prioritize, and re-structure. We need change. This will take time, but we should also not settle for promises. Let’s elect people that will make these changes because they’re part of the community they serve. Let’s push for laws and policies that enable a more equal life under the law. Let’s push for policies that give reparations to people who have been disenfranchised for hundreds of years, especially if it’s at my expense. I have benefited for too long.
Let’s do this now. I want to see a 2021 that’s more just, more offering, more able to support. I want to see America in a better light, a country that will adjust to the demands of its people and give a next step towards the better for all of us. This is what a world leader looks like, and this is what our black brothers and sisters are entitled to. Continue the fight.
