My “Little Man” paying me back!
This is the first time I’ve been able to capture one of the chicks in a hunter/prey situation
Here the young male, if you look close you will notice he’s growing out a new tail, here he shows off and eats his prey on camera! A juicy grasshopper.

Had a great horned visit yesterday morning in a thunderstorm

The babies are now young adults
They obviously have succeeded at learning hunting skills!
I still see them occasionally often time hanging together
They no longer have any interest in any mice I have placed for them so they are not hungry
I’m so pleased every time I see them and watch them fly

Well look who checked in today! Up until two days ago I was supplementing their food with mice etc
The past few days they are becoming more scarce and not hitting the food I place out, I think my assistance is no longer needed😐
It sure is rewarding knowing all three surviving chicks have a great chance of survival now

One of the females comes in and grabs a mouse I placed out for it
I’m offering just enough to sustain as they grow their own hunting skills
The grasshoppers are starting to get big enough for them to really refine the hunting skills
It’s a fun thing knowing that my influence has brought them to this stage
It won’t be long and they will be migrating south
I do have a couple resident birds that stay year round but they have to be incredibly good at hunting when the snow comes
Sure wish they were banded😐

The male feeds until the female swoops in on him

The female takes a snake I offered then the next vid the male comes in and feeds on some breast meat
It took some effort to get these vids

The little male visited the house this AM! He asking for a mouse in Kestrel language 😁
