One of the biggest rewards of being a photographer is that I get to capture major events like this!

My dad retired from the fire department yesterday after 25 years of service in Flagstaff. He sacrificed a lot over those 25 years and this was a very major step in moving forward after years of the unimaginable. During the ceremony my sister, as a former 911 dispatcher, was able to conduct his last call, setting off the tones and being the first to congratulate him on his retirement. Additionally, my brother, a current firefighter on a navel base in Washington, was able to receive the folded flag during the ceremony and do the honors of handing it to my dad. These moments were both a surprise to him!

It is powerful to see these moments play out, and being able capturing this moment in history as it happens means everything❤

As a photographer, something I watch for is not only what is happening in front of the camera, but the natural moments in-between shots.

This sweet auntie was getting some much missed time with her niece. These special moments are what we live to capture because there is such a real and rawness to what they show. Plus, they're super sweet moments the family gets to have for years to come!

School starts again tomorrow! I hope you all enjoyed a bit of rest before we get back into it.

Parents....you've got this and you're doing great! You've almost made an entire crazy school year that has looked different than I think most of us expected it to look. In most cases, there was no one to prepare you for a year of major changes is almost every area of life. There wasn't anyone preparing you to homeschool all your kids while also working full time jobs. There wasn't anyone who told you how many self sacrifices you'd have to make for your family this year. No one gave you a heads up that you'd have to steward kid's hearts on why they could no longer do the things they always did or why they would have to sit in front of a screen all day instead of being with their friends in school.

This has been a tough school year filled with frustrations, tears, self sacrifice, unknowns, inconsistencies, etc. BUT...we are going to finish strong! We are going to send our kids back to school prepared and ready to learn in whatever that environment is. We are going to send them into the day filled with encouragement and excitement, because a good attitude changes everything. We are going to receive them with love and grace understanding that they've gone through a lot as well.

Tomorrow, I would encourage you to have dinner together with your family at a table. No TV, no phones, just talking. Talk about the day, this week, the year. Talk about the good, the bad and the ugly. Talk about the heart issues that have come up and how their classes were. As a parents, share your struggles from that day as well. Growing up, I never felt more connected to my parents than when they were transparent and shared what they were struggling with as it related to my own struggle. Lets sit and dwell together as a family and set the tone for the rest of the year.

To all the parents, you're doing great and you've walked out a lot. Accept Yahweh's grace, and keep going. You can do this!!

Do you ever see a location that just makes you fall in love? We absolutely LOOOOOOVED this wedding in Chino Valley!

Random Fact from shooting this wedding: I put in more cardio running back and forth around their little lake to get the most DREAMY shots then I had probably the whole year!....we will be investing in walkie talkies next time😆
