Are people going to judge you?

Yes.

They’ll judge you for sharing…

-Your pretty, pouty face full of makeup with a filter slapped on it.

-Your personal thesis on body image and beauty standards.

-Your young adult years, where you totally messed up your life and then put it back together again.

People will absolutely have thoughts about you.

But think about it.

Why would you let a bunch of people who view the world in a limiting way be your judges?

Like, would you care if the most racist and hateful group of people thought you were too loving?

Would you care if the most evil person you’ve met thought you were too ethical?

You only care because YOU also have the belief.

That you’re too much, too cringe, too unremarkable, too boring, too young, too old, too opinionated, too weird, too messed up.

What comes up for you?

Your perfect clients are waiting to find you.

They’ll get you.
They’ll pay you more because they just have to work with YOU.
They’ll absolutely love everything you create.

But you have to have the courage to accept, embrace, love, and allow yourself first.

We underestimate the amount of effort that it takes to hit a goal.

Maybe it will take more mindset.
Maybe it will take more consistency.
Maybe it will take more offers.
Maybe it will take more time.
Maybe it will take meeting more people.

When you underestimate your goals,

You’ll inevitably hit a point where you face your failure.

You’ll feel like you have nothing to show for all the hard work you put in. Discouraged. Defeated.

And then- you’ll do one of a few things:

- You’ll give up, scale back, or stop taking action
- You’ll change something and have to start being consistent at BRAND new prices or on a BRAND new platform.
- You’ll offer discounts or flash sales out of desperation.
- You’ll get subconsciously mad at your audience and stop showing up out of service.
- You’ll tell yourself you’re not doing ENOUGH and do MORE work less efficiently.

All of these things will make your goal take even longer.

So…

What if it IS working?

What if you just need to keep going?

What if you just need to keep trusting and tweaking the process?

The reason people give up on their business is the same reason people give up on their dream body- the results never come as fast and easy as we’d like.

I was looking in an old journal and found an exercise I had done in 2018:

-20 reasons why my work is worth $3,000-

The reasons all started with “I.”

I invested in all this equipment.
I go above and beyond.
I edit the pictures really beautifully.
I spend half a day with them.
… etc.

I did all these extra things to make my clients feel like they were getting value.

And while they were cute, they actually distracted everyone from the real value of my photo shoots:

- my clients felt SEEN and alive in their pictures

- moms watched their daughters soften into their own skin in just one day, deciding to pursue modeling (seriously, this happened so many times)

- my clients looked AMAZING no matter where we were, or how “natural” they were in front of the camera.

- they got the most beautiful, simply designed products in a way that felt easy and not confusing.

- the process was so seamless, the planning and prep was all but done for them, so busy clients could just show up and know they’d get insane results.

So instead of saying “I’m worth my price because it equals out to about $20/hr….”

Remember why your experience is so magical for your clients.

Remember that you can’t put a price on helping someone to feel beautiful for the FIRST TIME EVER.

I made the most money when I simplified, not did more.

I did less, but more excellent-ly.

I OWNED the true power of what I was doing.

People aren’t paying you cause you don’t sleep and would break your back for them.

They’re paying you for what THEY get.

Sell yourself on that.

One of my clients recently started to have bookings after a long time of spinning.

I thought what she said was so interesting-

Being kinder to herself was the missing ingredient.

And honestly- everyone I work with experiences this.

We have no idea how harsh we are inside our own head.

Like when you set a goal for the month and work really hard to get it…

But then when you don’t hit the goal, you tell yourself you didn’t do enough.

Or you’re not doing it right.

Or your business isn’t making progress.

Can you imagine how hard it would be to show up when someone is yelling those things at you all day?

You would never say that to your child.

You would never say it to your best friend.

Yet you let it slip by in your head because for most of us, we’ve spent our whole lives being motivated by not having or being enough.

You will subconsciously block people from paying you. ⁣

Out of integrity thoughts might look like…⁣

* This isn’t affordable⁣
* This isn’t accessible⁣
* Most people wouldn’t be able to pay for this⁣
* My service is best for people with extra money⁣
* People could go on an entire vacation for this price⁣
* People shouldn’t go into debt⁣
* People shouldn’t spend money when they’re struggling⁣
* People need to be tight because we’re in a pandemic⁣
⁣
Hint: Notice if you believe these things about you and your personal money situation.⁣
⁣
These thoughts are so important to look at because...⁣
⁣
Your subconscious brain will do EVERYTHING to make sure you are a good person.⁣
⁣
When your business is at odds with your integrity as a person… you will be forced to choose one. ⁣
⁣
And chances are, your value of integrity is higher than your value of having business success.⁣
⁣
The way to do business with integrity is not to lower your prices.⁣

You know the sad truth behind my ambition?

I get my self worth from how much I achieve.

Because being a smart kid means you’re praised for being smart and high achieving.

You get used to the attention.

The being treated like you’re special and have potential.

You always have to outdo yourself.

Or you go back to being basic.

You risk the chance of losing love.

Recently I asked myself-

Why.

Seriously.

Why?

Why is it always pushing it to the limit?

Why am I always delaying graitification until I’ve passed some ridiculous goal?

Is it possible..

That I’m enough now?

Even if I don’t ever live up to the “potential.”

The things don’t mean anything.

The goals are literally just side effects of you accepting your current genius and worthiness RIGHT NOW.

And sure they’ll be nice.

But they’ll never be nice with Performer Attitude.

Because you’ll just feel like you do right now.

Like, “sure, you did okay, but you can still do so much better. You can still accomplish so much more.”

Are people who don’t accomplish things worth less?

Are you worth less when you’re not constantly dissatisfied and reaching for the next?

In 2014, I was a broke stay at home mom with a dream of starting some sort of enterprise.

I tried selling MLM products and inventing new things. I watched shark tank all the time, feeling jealous that these people had come up with great ideas and were making so much money. I even looked into franchising nail salons (🤷🏻‍♀️).

Finally, my husband encouraged me to start photography.

We sold my 2002 Ford Ta**us for $1000 and I used it to buy a starter camera with a kit lens.

It was so scary at the time to give up my car.

I asked the only high schooler I knew to model for me.

I posted photoshoots for $50 on a Facebook moms group.

I jumped at the chance to do a shoot in February, 9 degree weather in the 2 pm sun.

I spent months on every thing that would be public, my Instagram, my website, trying to look perfect.

I found other local photographers and compared everything from my work to my marketing to them.

I was terrified of people not seeing me at my best.

I was a people pleaser and easily mortified at sales.

I would often be so overwhelmed with the stress of working with others, not wanting to be the person in charge of confrontation... that I wouldn’t be able to focus when I was with my family.

I frequently stayed up all night working because I thought it was required to build a business.


If you’re struggling at all right now...

It’s OKAY.

You can become successful even with zero skills.

You can learn and overcome any social anxiety, sales skills, marketing confusion.

I did it on my own because I didn’t realize help was available.

But now I can help others to do it so much faster. With so much less drama and heartache.

I just have to tell you all what I have been up to.

During the pandemic I started my life coaching business, which was my dream.

Coaching is a lot like photography in that you hold a sacred space for your clients.

The more vulnerable you are willing to feel..

The more deeply you are willing to look inside yourself..

The more you can hold the space for someone else.

Holding the space is so unlike what I used to do when I was young and wanted to fix everyone.

It comes with very strong boundaries and upholding them with love for yourself.

You have to honor your own space first.

And then when you are open to sharing that space with others..

Others can feel safe. Seen. And magic can happen.

If you are reading this, and you’re a natural healer, and people feel like they can tell you things...

I recommend you start enforcing very strong but loving boundaries on when you give your energy.

I recommend you dive deep into your own healing and growth.

And you can do whatever medium you are drawn to. Photography, coaching, spiritual healing, therapy, music, art, there are so many ways of impacting others.
