“Touchdown Hawks!”

An appropriate share for this weekend?

My old photo of an Osprey landing with its dinner, probably 2018, Sandy Point / Whatcom County.

“Pelican Glow” A lone California Brown Pelican heads out to sea at sunset, perhaps heading back to its nesting colony on Santa Cruz Island? With wildlife I tend to get hyper focused on the tight crop feather/fur detail. Sometimes it is good to leave some open space.

A sleepy fox soaking up the sun on Santa Rosa, Channel Islands National Park. A surprise storm shifted our original plans a bit but resulted in some special experiences with the flora and fauna of a less-visited island.

For my 40th we took a short vacation, a second visit to Channel Islands National Park. This time we visited Santa Rosa Island and had some breathtaking encounters with whales, dolphins, foxes, and a variety of birds. Turns out there is a website where you can upload whale tail images to learn about the individuals that came up to our boat, and of course for science.

It’s been a crazy few months selling our Bow home and moving across the bay from where wildlife photography started for me a decade ago.

Not the greatest shot or edit, but a truly rare experience for us bird nerds. Long-tailed Ducks are usually only seen with crazy scopes at crazy distances. We were out paddling a few weeks back and came across some mergansers and one odd ball, who did not care about us during its bathing experience.
