Hi people, it's been a little while, so here's a share. Last weekend Lisa and I drove a little north to Sugar Hill, NH to check out the blooming Lupines. There are several fields of flowers and some impressive views in this area, near Franconia Notch. Here"s some shots that I took on our little adventure.

We got roughly a foot of snow here last week when that storm blew through New England (the ruler showing 10 inches was in the morning; it snowed hard all day). Here are a few snaps of the white stuff. I have missed snow, tbh, but careful what you wish for, right? I've practiced with the snow plow, worked on breaking in my under-used snow boots and new snow shovel, and generally leaned in to life in the north. All good.

Awhile back someone suggested that I post some fall foliage shots from the north country. Now that the colors of New Hampshire are giving way to the onset of winter, at least in my area, I have decided to share a collection of my iPhone snapshots for y'all. A phone camera is not really the ultimate tool for landscape photos, but it's always in my pocket and making these pix is something like open ended therapy for the work burnout I'd been experiencing for some time before we left Florida. You may notice the same gnarly old apple tree in a few of these. That's in my yard and it's kind of magical. I'm doing a long term study of it in different lighting conditions, weather and seasons. Eventually I'll show you guys some of those. Anyway, nothing really amazing here but I hope somebody gets a bit of enjoyment from these.

Hey everyone, just a quick post from the North Country. This is Comet Neowise as seen from our deck in central New Hampshire on Monday, July 20 at appx. 10:35 PM. The shots I got are unfortunately not as sharp as I wished but I'm posting this anyway because whatever. It's still cool. We get some wonderful night skies here when the weather cooperates. Some nights Lisa and I just sit out there and count satellites and shooting stars. The comet was quite a bonus. Neowise will return in 6,766 years. Hopefully, there will still be people here to see it.

This post is from yesterday, April 1, 2020:
Today, Lisa and I continue preparations to move the rest of our stuff out of the house we've also had our business in since shortly after we bought 1401 Atlantic Avenue in 1993. And today was the day Island Photography gave away for free or sold for token amounts, old sets of studio lights, stands and backgrounds, well worn tripods and assorted camera brackets, lens caps, filters, straps and even a film developing spool. I had a good bit of accumulated stuff from the nearly 42 year run of our little enterprise, so I wanted to share the love and get some help moving out in the process. Alas, as we made our plans for today, with help from the Island Art Association Photographer's Group, news of the pandemic grew increasingly alarming. We made an effort to schedule people coming to look through our gear, to keep more than one or two folks at a time from being in the room, left the doors open so nobody had to touch door handles, and we tried to keep our distance. Several people wore masks, and the ones that Lisa had ordered for us from a friend's sister came in today's mail. Brilliant timing. Stay safe, friends. Remember to wash your hands a lot. Wear a filter of any kind that you can get when you go to the store or anywhere necessary, and stay home the rest of the time. If everything keeps working, our house sale closes on April 9. We'll stay in touch.

Here's my shot from tonight's SpaceX launch. This is the view from Main Beach in Fernandina Beach, Florida, about 160 miles north of Cape Canaveral. The photo shows the track of the Falcon 9 first stage going up, the second stage ignition, pushing a Cargo Dragon capsule into orbit for a rendezvous with the ISS, and the first stage retro burn as it aims for a bull's eye touchdown on a pad near the launch site. This marked the 50th successful Falcon 9 first stage propulsive landing for SpaceX. The Cargo Dragon is unmanned but contains routine supplies as well as science instruments and, you know, NASA stuff. This photograph is an exposure of about 8.6 minutes at f/11, with iso 100. There was a waxing moon high overhead providing some light.

I got a pretty good photo of tonight's United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket launch from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The image exposure was for a little under 5 minutes at ISO 100 and f/11 aperture. This mission flies a joint NASA and European Space Agency spacecraft called SolO, for Solar Orbiter, which will record new solar observations from an orbit inside of the orbit of Mercury. Go Science!
