It’s been a great time to focus on backyard birds. I’m fortunate to live in the woods and birds here tend to be pretty bold which affords me some great perspectives. Enjoy these images and let me know your favorite.

What birds do you see in your backyard?

I recently visited America's newest National Park, New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. The park is nestled in the Southeastern corner of West Virginia on the Western slope of the Appalachian Mountains. The New River is unique in that it flows Northward. The most iconic feature of the park is the massive steel span bridge connecting Fayetteville, WV and Victor, WV which was built in 1977. This bridge is now the third longest steel span bridge in the western hemisphere and the third highest in the United States.

Aside from this iconic feature, the park holds breathtaking views from cliffs overlooking the deep gorge and an extensive trail network revealing an endless network of intimate streams and waterfalls.

The images of the gristmill are from Babcock State Park.

Enjoy the images and as always, you can see more images from this trip and more here: https://www.chrisbeasleyphotography.com/p474303084

A recent trip to produced some memorable sights and scenes. Here is a collection of some of the good shots, not all fine-art, but sharing because of the incredible beauty and diverse landscapes that can be found in the islands. Many of these images are available as prints at my online gallery store here: www.chrisbeasleyphotography.com

DO NOT DISTURB: It's that time of year. When exhausted postpartum mothers hide their babies to forage for sustenance and replenish their weakened bodies. But don't worry, this day-old fawn is perfectly fine. Its mother carefully chose this spot under a Christmas Fern in a quiet woodland meadow to keep safe until her return later in the day to nurse.

This is a reminder to never disturb these bundles of cuteness for they are exactly where they are supposed to be. Never approach, harass, pet, or take selfies with a hidden fawn. Only intervene for an urgent safety matter or after consultation with a wildlife expert (not Facebook or your aunt Judy)...unless Judy is a wildlife expert of course.

It's January 5th! According to Born Free USA and the Avian Welfare Coalition it's NATIONAL BIRD DAY!!

In honor of such a momentous occasion, I'm taking this opportunity to share some bird images that I've captured over the last year or so. The COVID-19 Pandemic and associated isolation have allowed me to hone my skills and create some images that I don't think I would have been able to get otherwise.

All of these images were taken on my property here in Southern Maryland and represent many of the common woodland birds in this area.

See these images and more at www.chrisbeasleyphotography.com

Please enjoy and let me know which ones you like best!

Happy New Year,
Chris Beasley
