A lot of times when I do a shoot, I am reminded of a life lesson. That is what I love about photography. It echoes human truths to me, sometimes truths no one else knows about or cannot even see. Ever so often, I am hit so hard by these that they change my view of the world.
Here is a great example: I wanted a sweet picture perfect shoot with my cute almost 2 year old. I wanted her smiling and sweet. What I learned here is, things do not always happen as we planned them. My sweet Corah was all ready to go for her cute smiley shoot when Lylah walks by with this messy blueberry cream cheese bagel. Corah sees it and immediately wants it. Lylah, being the kind heart she is gave it to Corah. Had I been caught with this situation any other day, I might have sat my camera down and tried to wrestle the bagel away from my 2 year old. Instead, I decided to just go with it. How many times in our lives do we have to resort to "Just go with it?" If you are like me the answer to that is quite often. In doing that, I was able to capture something real. A beautiful set of photos that represents a few things dear to my heart, Lylah's kindness and my Corah's head strong free spirit. I will look back on these photos one day, hopefully as an old lady with grandchildren of my own and I know that they will still represent the same life lessons and reflections of my children and I will cherish these memories even more than I do right now.
