When I saws this old bull it caused me to think, this bison wears its years openly—thickened shoulders, a worn coat, scars earned from seasons of cold, drought, battles of dominance. An old buffalo may not be as strong or as energetic as it once was, but it is tested. It has survived brutal winters, shifting herds, predators, and time itself. When I saw this old bison, it made me think about the quiet beauty of age and wisdom—how time refines rather than erases. Age in the wild isn’t measured in wrinkles but in resilience and restraint. Like experience in a long human life, each mark tells a story of adaptation, memory, and endurance. The beauty here isn’t perfection—it’s proof of a life fully lived and knowledge earned through survival.

The Teton Range is one of the youngest mountain ranges in North America, yet its jagged skyline feels timeless. Formed by powerful faulting along the Teton Fault, the peaks rise sharply more than 7,000 feet above the Jackson Hole valley. At sunset, the granite faces reflect layers of color caused by low-angle sunlight scattering through the atmosphere. Never take a sunset for granted. One more the Tetons though is easy to admire🙌

Fall looks different at
every elevation. The higher you go, the earlier the show begins - cool mountain air signals aspens to turn from green to brilliant gold weeks before the valleys even hint at color. At mid-elevations, the change rolls down the slopes like a slow golden wave, while pine forests stay evergreen, offering deep contrast to the fiery tones around them.
Aspens are especially sensitive to temperature and daylight - as nights grow colder, chlorophyll fades and their true pigments shine through. In the valleys, where frosts come later, color lingers longer, stretching the season. Pines and firs remain steady through it all, their dark needles grounding the landscape as the aspens shimmer and fade.
No matter the height, fall reminds us how elevation shapes both color and timing - nature painting layer by layer across the mountainsides.

Here’s a quiz for all you animals buffs out there. Can you identify the animal in these photos?
A few hints.
-It’s very small, this particular one was likely 7-10 inches long.
-I cam across this one was found near the northern portion of Idaho’s Tetons Mountains.

"Black bears spend the fall in nonstop foraging mode - eating up to 20,000 calories a day to build the fat reserves they'll need for winter. They dig for roots, raid berry bushes, and even flip logs to find insects and grubs. Watching one this close in its natural element is quite humbling. I got the chance to see several picking through the Hawthorn berry bushes (though they have many names, serviceberries, saskatoons, etc), doing what they can to pack it on before hibernation.

Amid the granite and pines of the Tetons, chipmunks race through roots and rocks, scattering seeds like tiny gardeners of the wild.
Each dash and dig helps the forest breathe again — trees reborn from what they forget they dropped.
They’re not just cute faces in the wilderness; they’re part of the rhythm that keeps these mountains alive.
In a world chasing big footprints, maybe we can learn from the smallest ones — doing great things quietly. 🌱

The great blue herons at Farmington bay (George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Wildlife Education Center) getting their nests ready for their hatchlings this next year. I guess spring cleaning comes a little early for the Great Blue Heron.
