Ghosts of North America Ghost towns, abandoned places, and the North American roadside. Ghosts of North America will be your window on that.

In 2003, we started a project to document North Dakota’s ghost towns and abandoned places through photography — a project that became the website, GhostsofNorthDakota.com, and later, a series of hardcover coffee table books. Along the way, we branched out a little bit, into Minnesota with GhostsofMN.com, but we also made plans to someday visit the intriguing, abandoned, faraway places of North Ame

rica — a wish list of the abandoned. For now, we’ll be posting a few things of interest here and there, but soon we hope to begin visiting these places in person. We’re from North Dakota, and the geographical center of the continent is here in our state, so what better way to start exploring North America’s abandoned places than from the center out?

Coming to the end of an extremely productive summer, a look at the Sculpture reveals Crazy Horse’s Hand emerging more and more from the granite. Even from the Visitor Center nearly one mile away, the appearance of part of Crazy Horse’s Thumb is recognizable.

Whether you are enjoying a day off or hard at it this – we encourage you to take a step back, look at the bigger picture, and appreciate progress. Happy Labor Day!
