I've enjoyed becoming a "go-to" guy for live event photography. I've done lots of concerts and theater, and lately, I gotten to photograph lots of dancers. Their artistry and athleticism is really incredible! I just finished editing and delivering some photos from an amazing recital, and thought I'd share some favorites from the past 6 months.

Nick Brandt is one of the world's greatest photographers. I became aware of him when I saw his black and white photos of lions and elephants in 2007. They were unlike any other nature photos I'd ever seen.

Over the years, I've seen other projects of his. His latest is profound: Syrians living in Jordan's deserts, constantly on the move as farmers, trying to find land to farm in the midst of drought.

Just take a look at these photos, and the dignity they impart. Amazing work.

Seniors sure are fun. When else do you get to be the center of attention, and just get pictures of you being you, doing things you love? I just finished up some Senior photos last weekend, (one of the kids pictured here!) and had a blast doing it. Excited for more opportunities coming up, because kids are awesome!

Excitement! Drama! Comedy! And murder most foul! I had a blast photographing "The 39 Steps" theater production at Lebanon Trail High School last night. So funny, and so incredibly creative. They turned their stage into a black box-style theater, so the audience is seated around them. I saw their final dress rehearsal. Whoever gets to see it with a full audience that they'll be interacting with is in for a treat! Well done, Michael Hollomon!

I love being the official photographer of the Emerson High School Majestics Drill Team! A big part is all due to one certain redheaded team member, of course. But I love Friday Night Lights (or sometimes Thursday Nigh Lights) in Texas! Reach out to me if you have any event photography or portrait photography needs.

Have you ever found a bunch of old photos in a box in the back of a closet, or in a grandparent's attic? They're amazing to hold and look at, wonderful time capsules of our past selves or past lives.

Don't just post your pictures online. I take family portraits for people from time to time, and always let them know that I'd love to help them get professional prints made too (and I always give full resolution digital images so people can do this). Most don't take me up on this. I hope they get prints made on their own though. Because digital is not forever. File formats will change. Hard drives will crash. Pixels will disappear. Paper lasts.

This news story reminded me of the importance of this.
