When the first heavy snows came, the villagers did what they’d always done. They left small offerings where the cold could find them—salt for protection, thread for binding, a single candle stub for light that might last through the night. They spoke her name with the care you give to thresholds and old warnings.

They said she appeared only when the storm turned the world into blank paper—black veil moving through white, red hands bright as a vow, a blade that never dulled because it was fed by intention. Some called her a saint. Others, something older. But everyone agreed on one thing:

She didn’t hunt the lost.
She hunted the ones who made others disappear.

Tonight, the woods were quiet in that careful way—as if even the trees were listening. Near the old wall at the edge of town, she paused and let the snow write and rewrite itself around her. Somewhere inside, a sound tried to survive the wind: a laugh, a door, a secret.

She tilted her head, almost tender, as though deciding whether mercy belonged here.

Then she stepped forward. The storm swallowed the sound of her dress. The night took her name from the air.

All that remained was the color of warning moving through white.
