Welcome to my origin story aka how the heck did I go from depresso on the couch to espresso (martini) at fancy galas?!
Era 1: senior graphic designer and media manager at a boutique DMV real estate brokerage (love that the stickers I made are still online!) They let me work from home since the first baby, so honestly I was comfortable and could’ve stayed there forever.
Era 2: third baby turned out to have severe eczema and a bajillion allergies, so after juggling/struggling for a year I gave my notice to give SAHM life a try. Spoiler, as much as I love them it’s incredibly draining to wrangle three kids under 4, and I had to find a flexible side hustle to send them to daycare.
Era 3: bought the camera I saw most of the pros using, even though I had never used manual settings before. I’ve been artsy all my life and assumed I could figure it out. Spoiler: I did. Tried all the different niches that first year, but fell in love with branding two months in.
Era 4: building my branding portfolio, working mostly on-location, but wishing I had my own space so I wouldn’t have to lug all my equipment back and forth and my gear wouldn’t have to take up so much room in our townhome.
Era 5: started looking for a commercial lease almost exactly a year after buying the camera. Got the keys April 1, 2025 (happens to be the bday of my entrepreneur dad) and took three months to renovate.
Era 6: leveled up my skills, my knowledge, and everything possible to take amazing portraits that truly show who my clients are.
Era 7 and beyond: speaking on podcasts, appearing on TV, organizing workshops and lunch and learns, getting my own photos done by phenomenal photographers, hosting my own gala for my clients and their portraits, networking my introverted butt off, making the cringey reels to share my message, signing up for coaching, mentoring, and all the things to level up my work and my systems.
If you’re a business owner with huge goals and even bigger dreams, pull up a chair, you’re in good company. I’ll handle your branding, let’s shoot for the moon together!
