It's been a while since I've shared a Maternity Monday. ๐
This beautiful family is patiently waiting for the arrival of their baby boy, making them a family of four.
This is the 2nd look from their maternity session, and Mom knew exactly what she wanted. She painted such a clear picture of her vision that my job was simply bringing it to life.
As we talked through the editing process, I mentioned that if she wanted, I could make her baby bump appear a little more pronounced. Without hesitation, she smiled and said,
"No... I want to remember everything just as it was."
Those words have stayed with me.
As photographers, we spend so much time chasing the perfect light, the perfect edit, and the perfect final image. While those things certainly have their place, they should never erase the truth of the moment.
Her baby bump didn't need to be bigger. It didn't need to be "perfect." It just needed to be hers.
That conversation reminded me that my job isn't just to create beautiful images, it's to preserve honest memories.
One day, she'll look back at these portraits and remember exactly how she carried her son. The true size of her baby bump. The way her husband looked at her. The way her little girl watched her grow life so gracefully. The excitement of becoming a family of four, and the little details that time has a way of quietly stealing from us.
Portraits aren't just meant to be beautiful.
They're meant to take you back.
And that's why I believe the most meaningful images aren't always the most perfected ones. They're the ones that allow you to relive a season exactly as it happened.
What memory would you want your future self to relive through a portrait?
