Lifestyle or Traditional family photos? Which do you prefer?

Lifestyle family photos, like photo 1, are candid-esque. They usually center around an activity/game which produces natural reactions and interactions between family members. Think bursts of laughter, natural smirks, and emotive glances. This approach rarely results in everyone looking at the camera.

Traditional family photos, like photo 2, are what we tend to think of when we think of family photos, ie everyone looking in the direction of the camera and smiling (or some variation of smiling 😅). But this doesn’t have to mean forced or fake smiles like in school photos. Jokes, question & answer games, and headswapping are generally involved to get more natural smiles directed towards the camera.

Does one catch your eye more than the other?

Fun Fact 2: This type of sunflower blooms in the fall! Prior to learning about this sunflower field, I had assumed sunflowers only bloomed in the summer. 🫣

Save this parents-only inspo for your next family photoshoot. Swipe for some BTS footage on how this image came to be.

Parents/Couples photos don’t have to only consist of traditional portraits (ie both looking at the camera and smiling). They can also be candid or lifestyle-esque, like this one. My candid/lifestyle shots consist of using a pose as a starting point but then I give you a “game” or activity that brings out natural interactions or emotions which are captured in your final images.

Whoops we completely forgot about Nopal’s anniversary! And by we, I mean Bluey (my cat) and I. 😆

Nopal Photography is officially 4! Alhamdulillah

Shoutout to my Sugar Papí (aka husband) for supporting & investing in my business. He bought my two cameras and a great deal of my early equipment so I actually mean investing 😆

Throwback to my niece’s senior session. We did her session on a classic Virginia summer day (aka humid and hot as hell) but still managed to get all the shots she envisioned (with lots of water & sweat blotting breaks in between). She’s the second of the 19 Ayoubi grandchildren (MashaAllah) to graduate from high school so far! 🥹

To bribe your kid(s) or not to bribe your kid(s) for a photoshoot? Is that even a real question though? Not sure where I’d be if I didn’t sometimes bribe my kids with candy to get out of the house 😆 Side note, I always reward kids with a little toy of their choice after the photoshoot (with parents’ approval in advance).
