Time moves fast, time moves slow. I often forget about night photography being "long exposures" when people ask me about it in the real world. I think, no, this only took 2 minutes to take, or this only took 15 seconds for the sky frame, and 30 seconds for the foreground. I forget that regular daytime landscape photos are often handheld photographs taken in less than 1 second.
I never question if I should take my tripod along on a photoshoot, I have to use it every time.
This is part of the reason I do what I do, go out in the dark to photograph Earth under the stars. Because it forces me to SLOW DOWN and really acquaint myself with the world around me. Which allows my brain to find calm and my body to relax.
When I go out to photograph, my usual goal is one final image. I don't hope to showcase the entirety of a place in one photoshoot. The entire night of photography is focused on creating that one goal image. If I am able to get other compositions, those are bonuses. Sometimes I have 1 or 2 stretch goals that "would be nice" but I always try to accomplish my main goal first.
Happy Earth Day! Please take some time to care for and enjoy nature today.
