Eerie mornings in the mountains.

The weathered front door creaked open to reveal the scene. Bare feet on cold stone steps, I poked the camera out into the rainy morning.

The clouds had been rolling over the faces of the mountains since daybreak. Pines emerging from the blanket of grey only to be swallowed up again. It created an ever roaming spotlight to all the parts of the mountains that usually draw no attention.

Coffee in hand I followed the spotlight for the duration of the morning. Allowing my attention to be guided by the clouds.

Out visiting the Godswood.

An old tree standing alone in an open field. A scene that never ceases to stir my imagination.

I wish I could hear the stories of those who’ve found refuge under those old knobby branches.

Shot in the flatlands of Wyoming on a storm drive after a cancelled flight.

There are Captains who have left the comfort of a warm bed to row out to their vessel sitting in an ice crusted harbor. Pointing the bow into the black of a scene like this and heading out beyond the horizon line.

They are braver men than I.

It felt as if I had stumbled into Davy Jones locker. A place where the air freezes a saltwater tide to the rocks as it recedes can’t be of the normal world. It was ominous to a level that I could feel in my bones.

For the whole morning I kept an eye out for the Dutchman emerging from the waves. What I was witnessing felt so surreal that seeing masts and ripped sails rise out of the smoke would’ve been par for the course.

The waves are growing stronger. Each storm seems to lay a new, harsher beating onto these little beach shacks. They have always stood out to me as a nod to an older northeast beach spirit.

I had to snag a few photos for my memory just in case the ocean finally collects it’s debts for years of that perfect seaside view.

Two years of trying and I finally got it.

This shot is all about timing. In summer it was difficult to line up, in winter it proved next to impossible.

It comes down to a combination of time of sunrise, tides, wind, and clouds among constantly changing other elements. Add trying to time a fresh blanket of snow to that, and it turned near impossible.

But the effort was rewarded. So many details get highlighted with contrast between the seasons. Such as a packed summer harbor being whittled down to the last two boats. A passion project to show the massive change that happens on the seacoast of New Hampshire.

The lighthouse that welcomes the some of the most brutal storms as they make landfall in northern New England.

The fresh snow gave Nubble Lighthouse a truly special feeling on a freezing winter morning.
