What does a ripple mean to you?
It was a meditative pre-dawn at Fort Bragg. The fog hung in the air and fingered its way thru the trees like a young girl combing out her hair. The waters’ stillness mirrored the pilings above, while the light house quietly blinked its’ red signal of warning to an empty bay. The sounds were soft and calm easing me into a meditative state. There was one place at the cove, where the rhythmic sound of water rippled past a rock over and over again, like a mother gently rocking her baby.
I stood there for quite some time, watching, feeling. I couldn’t help but connect this moment as a visual metaphor of what is happening in our country, in our world today. How we are impacted by one person’s beliefs and behavior and the rippling effect and impact on us.
In our personal lives, we have the ability to create and spread our own ripples, among family, friends and those we encounter on a daily basis. How we treat people passes on to them, and passes from them to another. A movie was even made about it - Pay it Forward- so if you haven’t watched it, you must.
We are energy, light and love if we so choose. We make a choice every day in how we want to be in the world. May you send out good and if not, ask yourself why that is, what is stopping you. It doesn’t need to be a grand gesture, just a pleasant hello, a simple acknowledgement and smile of those you encounter. Years ago it was known as being a good neighbor, or the golden rule of ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Each day is a gift of hope. Each day we have choices. May your energy be a positive ripple on this earth.
