Finally our first actual snowstorm of the season. Our soggy neighbors stopped by. Did you know that the fur in a deers ears is super curly and super cute? Neither did I. Now we both know! ❄️

I think this photo sums up how bad this winter is in coloRADo. February 24. Raining on I70 at the Eisenhower Tunnel at 11,112’. 64 degrees and a Red flag warning at home at 8000’. Zero snow. It’s grim, folks.

This is the ICE I support. All other ICE can G**O.
I have to work today - but I’m standing in solidarity with everyone in this country today demanding justice and an end to the violent occupation of our cities.

.virgil and I wrapped up the weekend with a jaunt up Glacier Gorge. Alpine summer is in full swing and nothing makes me happier than getting out and enjoying it during its too-brief appearance 🌼

After two attempts thwarted by thunderstorms, Andrew and I finally finished all 4 of the DeCaLiBron peaks (technically 5 because we submitted Cameron twice and we followed the rules and summited Bross via the Bross bypass) Mt Democrat (14,152’), Mt Cameron (14,238’), Mt Lincoln (14,295’), Mt Bross (14,178’). Perfect day!

Yet another blow to conversation by the current administration. The Trump administration fired the lead biologist and two other US Fish and Wildlife staff responsible for the program to bring black-footed ferrets back from the brink of extinction. This program is considered to be one of the most successful examples of the power of conservation. There used to be nearly a million black-footed ferrets in North America, but in 1979 they were declared extinct. Yet surprisingly in 1981 a small population of ferrets were discovered in WY, and with the last 18 remaining ferrets on the planet the effort to recover the species began. Thereare now about 1200 reintroduced ferrets in North America - far from their original numbers in the millions, but still promising. In 2018 I was lucky enough to photograph one in the Rocky Mountains Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. It’s still perhaps the most special wildlife sighting I’ve had (trumped by when I saw 3 of the 8 California Condors living in the wild at that time circling me on the cliffs of Big Sur). These ferrets represent our ability to right our wrongs on this planet, and thier recovery efforts are now in jeopardy. Flood your representatives phones.

A new adventure is long overdue around here, so .virgil and I decided to start section running the , a 177 mile loop comprised of 28 segments that circles Denver. Seems like a cool way to explore areas of the city we’d never otherwise see. Yesterday we started the loop on Segment 16 in Aurora with an easy lil 5 miles on the Highline Canal Trail through some neighborhoods and then into the Sand Creek Greenway for the last couple miles (which was surprisingly scenic!). We shuttled back to the truck our gravel bikes, which we’ll probably use for shuttling whenever we can on future segments. I’m super excited for this lil project!
