Yesterday I had the honor of photographing a funeral for a man who was deeply loved, a man whose family wasn’t ready to say goodbye. Moments like these are never easy. But having been present for many life milestones, both joyful and heartbreaking, I’m beginning to understand something more. How important it is to be present, to love fully, and to create memories while we can. As a photographer, my SD cards hold more than images, they hold pieces of people’s lives. I’ve been trusted to capture the happy days like births, weddings, and graduations, but I’ve also been entrusted with documenting stillbirths, wakes, and funerals. Each moment, no matter how big or small, joyful or painful, carries a story that deserves to be remembered. It is never lost on me what an honor this is. To be invited into such intimate spaces, to help families hold on just a little longer, to pause time for a brief moment, and to preserve memories that will one day mean everything is something I carry with deep gratitude.
Over this past year, I’ve grown not only in my craft but in my heart. Each session, and especially each editing process, has become a quiet space for reflection. I find myself revisiting not just your moments, but my own. Understanding life in new ways every time. So to every client who has trusted me: thank you. Thank you for allowing me into your lives. Thank you for letting me witness your love, your joy, your grief, and your milestones. Thank you for trusting me to capture what matters most. Life is fragile. Time moves quickly. And it is a privilege beyond words to help preserve the moments that make it all meaningful.
