How I “Do It All” as a Photographer and Mom of Three
If you look at my feed, you might see the dreamy romantic sessions, the delivered galleries, and the stories of life with my three kids. People often ask, “How do you manage a full-time photography business and stay home with three kids? How do you do it all?”
The short answer? I don’t.
The Reality Behind the Lens
We live in a culture that romanticizes the “supermom” who runs a business during nap times and keeps a pristine house. But the “doing it all” narrative is a myth. Here is the actual breakdown of how my life and business function:
• Priority Over Perfection: I’ve traded the “perfect” house for a thriving business and present motherhood. Some days the laundry wins, and some days the editing wins. I’ve learned to be okay with both.
• The Power of a Village: While I am so grateful for my in-laws who help out whenever they can, the reality is that sometimes the “village” is really just me and my husband tag-teaming between nap times and client shoots.
• Boundaries are Non-Negotiable: Saying “yes” to every client means saying “no” to my kids. Setting clear business hours is what keeps my creativity—and my sanity—alive.
• Embracing the Chaos: My “office” often involves a toddler on my lap and the sound of toy cars in the background. It isn’t always quiet, but it is real.
Why I’m Sharing This
I’m sharing this because I want to pull back the curtain. If you feel like you’re drowning trying to keep up with an “aesthetic” life while building a brand, please know that the perfect balance doesn’t exist.
I don’t do it all. I do what I can, lean on my partner, and forgive myself for the rest. My business is built on capturing authentic, romantic moments and that includes the messy, unedited colors of my own daily life.
What is one thing you’ve “let go” of this week to make room for what actually matters? Let’s normalize the “not doing it all” together.
Huge shoutout to my friend for capturing these beautiful photos of me and my kiddos and being patient with us. 💕
