Good morning! Apparently there is a TikTok "lifehack" floating around that is designed to cheat wedding & event photographers out of their livelihood by signing an event contract for something like a "friends and family gathering," and then later finding out that it's really a wedding or elopement, which could be priced completely differently by the photographer. This is cheating by misrepresentation, and a breach of contract, so please don't be surprised if your photographer cancels on you without a refund as a result. That's a best-case scenario, because it's worthy of court visit, too. Some lifehacks are really handy, but know the difference between handy and harmful to small businesses and solopreneurs.

Dear friends, clients, future clients, and those who use other photographers -- I needed to bring an important issue up that you may have been unaware of; re-editing, altering, or adding filters to photos created by a professional photographer is illegal, due to copyright law. I humbly ask that you refrain from doing so. By editing over an image in your gallery, you are decreasing the printable resolution quality, and it does not reflect us or our brands in any way. By doing this to your images, you are giving a false advertisement of what we offer as photographers and community businesses. I spend countless hours editing and protecting my images to fit the style and aesthetic you hired me for, so I ask that you please, respectfully keep them exactly how they are delivered when printing or sharing your images.

I contacted the Idaho COVID hotline, and public safety rules WILL allow outdoor photography sessions with families *from the same household*, with the family at a safe distance from me (photographer), beginning May 1st. 👍👍👍 I'll begin opening up dates very shortly. A small sampling of a cold and windy session this past weekend with a beautiful couple, but, boy, did it pay off with the setting sun. 90% of the time, the dog was running full speed ahead through the snow and we were lucky he stopped long enough to get a few appearances in the photos. This night, my softbox light stand caught the wind and fell over a handful of times, I ended up on my butt while coming down from the chair lift on a slushy ramp, and we bid adieu to transition lens glasses left in one's back pocket when sitting on said chair lift. All in an evening's work!

Been saying this for years, folks. Print photobooks, print photos and put them in albums or just print memorable pictures with friends and family (including pets!) and hang them up on your walls! ENJOY them everywhere, not just on a phone or computer screen saver.

I love to browse other photographers' images. Not to critique or even take pointers off of, most times, but to truly just enjoy the perfection and imperfections. If everything is clinical and analyzed with a fine-toothed comb, you lose the wonder of the moment and the artform.
