This will be your family’s history and legacy - getting to document it will never stop being incredible to me

When you look at this photo you can almost feel the story behind it without knowing the full context. They were watching Courtney’s son play - a mom watching her daughter be a mom, a daughter finding comfort in being close and a grandmother watching her grandson grow.

Sometimes a photo doesn’t need to show you the whole story- it just has a feeling behind it and leaves room for you to fill in the rest

I think that’s why documenting everyday life matters so much to me. Those everyday moments hold just as much feeling as the big ones, and the photographs of them allow us to bring all of that back 🤎

If your toddler gives me one whole minute of sitting still we’re calling that a win haha

When I met Courtney and her family at Black Butte Ranch, we had about a minute where the little ones were happy to sit still and look at the camera. So we made the most of it! We got all the family formals done, grandparents with the grandkids, the whole family together and all the combinations in between.

And then we went to the family cabin and let the kiddos decide what came next - We explored, watched the ducks, played with the dog, went on a bike ride, read books at their family cabin, played with bubbles and just let them show us what they wanted to do.

My family sessions usually last an hour and a half to two hours, with no strict time limit. When we feel good, then we’re done! Putting a time limit on telling a family’s story just feels weird to me - I really don’t believe that’s something you should put a tight limit on.

I know you want those photos of everyone together, including the grandparents and grandkids but I also want you to have the photos that show what being together actually looks like.

You don’t have to spend your entire session trying to get your kids to cooperate. We’ll make the most of those moments when they’re ready and then follow their curiosity and just enjoy the afternoon together 🤎

Okay outside of all of this, I just need to take a moment to say how much I admire Courtney. The way she’s navigated everything life has thrown at her is absolutely unreal and she’s definitely one of the strongest women I’ve met🫶🏼 Her whole family is also so kind and the way they love each other and welcome everyone in is so evident in everything they do.

Your babies won’t be this little ever again. The little hands reaching for yours, the way they stop to smell every flower, the excitement over finding a rock they just HAVE to show you and even the slightly chaotic moments when they’re running in every direction before turning around and running right back to you.

Bella and Luca spent their afternoon picking flowers and seeing how much Luca loved stopping to smell each flower, fill his pockets, help with the bucket, and show us all the rocks he found along the way was the sweetest thing 🫶🏼

You want a story session but you just moved to the area and don’t feel like you have many places you’re connected to yet.

M + L had recently moved to Oregon and wanted their photos to reflect this chapter of life together. They loved the idea of the beach and the deep green forests but they were still getting to know the places around them.

So instead of choosing a location based on the memories they already had there, we made an evening of exploring the coast and letting the experience of discovering somewhere new become the story.

I talk a lot about how meaningful a location can be but that doesn’t always mean choosing somewhere you’ve been a hundred times before 🌊🐚

coffee shop romance that turned into summer evenings at the family cabin 🤎🎞️🛶

A + T wanted their engagement photos to feel like them, so they spent an evening together at their cabin on crescent lake and invited me to be a part of it. from time on the dock to jumping into the lake together, we kept things simple and let the evening unfold naturally

i think that’s one of the best parts of getting to know my couples before their session. learning about the little things that make their relationship theirs, like how they hold hands in the car, why they bonk heads together or the morning rituals they have at the cabin. it’s those little things that make their story theirs and the things i want them to look back and feel with the photos 🤎

Photos always mean a little more when they’re tied to a place that already holds memories.

Imagine walking with your little one through these same spots in just a few months and being able to say, “you were here with us and there was the most beautiful rainbow before we even met you” 🩵

That’s why I love sessions connected to places that already matter to you. Years from now, these photos won’t just feel pretty - they’ll hold pieces of this season.

Slide 5 + 6 will forever be moments where I was just standing there in complete awe!

The best wedding photos usually start before the wedding day 🌙

They start at sessions like this - a mix of getting to know each other, understanding your dynamic and this season of life. From that, it creates a space where you realize you do not need to perform perfectly - you just need to be present with each other.

The way B + C laughed through this entire session, stayed out until blue hour, embraced the Oregon coast wind and fully trusted the experience honestly says so much about the kind of wedding day they’re about to have and I’m beyond excited to celebrate with them ♡

C+J’s wedding day had us all going from crying to laughing every few minutes ♡

From her sister, mom, and dad seeing Cassidy in her dress, to Jason’s mom waiting at the bottom of the stairs with the proudest look on her face before the first look, to Jason’s reaction when he saw her… and don’t even get me started on their vows.

Any direction I looked, I could feel how deeply everyone cared for them. Their families were some of the sweetest people, constantly looking out for everyone around them (including us).

Right as the ceremony ended, it started pouring. And instead of panic, everyone jumped in together moving tables and turning the house into the coziest happy hour space. Days like this are such a reminder that weddings are never about everything going perfectly. They’re about being present enough to still enjoy it when plans shift.

We did happy hour in the house, snuck away for some of the sweetest couple portraits in the piano room while Cassidy played for us haha, shifted the timeline around a little, and honestly it ended up being perfect.

Then the rain cleared, the most beautiful Bend sunset came out, and they ended the night with the most epic party.

You don’t need to feel “ready” to have newborn photos you love… and if I’m honest, this isn’t a season you’re supposed to feel ready in.

It’s a little messy and everything is new - YES, that can make photos feel overwhelming, but that’s also part of why it matters.

Maybe you’re thinking, “I want to feel more like myself again,” “I want the house to feel a little more put together,” or “I’m not sure what I’d even do in photos.”

But when you look back, you won’t see the messy house or yourself not looking put together - you’ll just see how small they were in your arms, the way you held them, and the way these early days felt -
a little exhausting, emotional, and beautiful all at once. Before you know it, they’re two months old and rolling over.

And that’s exactly what this session was for T, M + P
