This is kind of a long post, but I feel compelled to write about Amit Kapoor. I typically don't discuss the work I do for campaigns, but this primary is important and his reelection is important. Amit has been a Lane County circuit court judge for the last 6 years and has heard nearly 7,000 cases across the county during that time. This is enough to establish a record of capability and measure the positive impact he'shad in our community.

I'm not the only person who thinks so. His endorsements include maaaaaaany attorneys, state representatives and senators, Oregon supreme court judges, court of appeals judges, circuit court judges, school board members, state troopers, county jail captain, U of O professors, teachers, firefighters, business owners, current and past mayors, and prominent members of our community. The list is long and most of these folks have personal experiences working with him and know his character in context with his position.

When folks come to my studio I ask probing questions to get a feel for who they are, the issues that affect them, what they care about and their outlook on a wide range of topics. Over the years I've worked with activists, city police, city counsel members, county commissioners, school board members, military service members, business owners, formerly incarcerated folks, I've gone to the women's prison outside of Albany to photograph instructors, I've photographed protests, mother's day portraits, and newborns. I'm a 5th generation Oregonian and I have many relatives who represent a range of social and political opinions. I care about each of them and firmly believe that justice should not be a partisan issue. Judges need the wisdom to incorporate a firm grasp of law AND society and I think Amit understands the dynamics of the work he does.

Oregon judges rise to the the position of a judge through a process of nomination, vetting, review, and consideration. Amit was selected from a pool of candidates for this seat and has served honorably. Check out amitkapoor2026 .com to learn more about his background and qualifications.

Erin Pettigrew is the Legal Director at the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries. She was a pleasure to work with and I wish her all the best!

This is a corporate style headshot. The white background makes it easy to use in business cards, in directories, and print layouts where you want to appear "on the page."

If you're looking for softer, more natural look for your brand, then I'd recommend a different lighting configuration, natural lighting, a different background or to go on-location.

It amazes me how the word "Headshot" can encompass such a huge variety of image types for folks. Even photographers have trouble agreeing on what a headshot is. (I've seen some claim that a head to knee shot where their face isn't showing is a headshot.... πŸ€”)

So when you come to me and ask for a headshot, I spend some time to make sure I deliver what you are expecting -- even if I personally don't call it a headshot.

There are a lot of options for lighting, expression, background, vibe, etc. But a few things are standard at my studio if you ask for a headshot: the photo will be of your face, head, and shoulders. If you want a photo that includes gestures, posing, waist, hips, movement, props, etc..... that's a business portrait or branding images. And that's a whole 'nuther ball of wax.

So I love it when you send me examples of what you want and tell me what your photos are for. My priority is to make sure we're on the same page. ☺️

Maren! I hope you are enjoying MA!

Maren (.nixon) is an actor from Oregon, continuing her BFA musical theater degree at Nazareth University. She came over for a headshot for her acting profile. We loved this blue background with her blue eyes. She is an outgoing and happy, but we also loved the more serious look in the second image.

Sometimes you just need a photo of your face and a range of expressions. If you are an actor, a headshot is great for showcasing your personality and ability to portray different roles. You'd use it to submit to casting directors, agents, and potential employers when auditioning for roles. It highlights your look and potential for a role.

A "this is me" headshot is different from a portrait.

A portrait can have creative lighting, incorporate hands, show just part of your face, in action, be just your head and shoulders or show you from head to toe, 3/4 or 1/2. Portraits have a wide, wide range of options.

A headshot is a headshot. It shows people what you look like. And it is part of the growth of your career. If you need people to recognize who you are, then a headshot is probably what you need.

Who needs a headshot?
Actors, dancers, therapists, attorneys, coaches, authors, business owners of all kinds, anyone who needs to assure anyone that you are a real person who can be trusted to deliver a solution to another person who needs it.

Let me know if you need a headshot or portraits, I love creating both. I just like to make sure people know what they're asking for when they request one or the other. πŸ™‚

I enjoyed working with Cheri Vaillancour to create headshots that would reflect her expertise and warm personality. Cheri is a consultant and certified professional coach for lawyers and firms. She helps develop leadership skills and enhance professional effectiveness. She also conducts firm-wide culture audits, improves onboarding & integration programs while keeping a big-picture focus like boosting productivity.

I love working with professionals because sometimes it's the first time they've had a good experience in a photo studio. Many times the only photo experience they've had is when someone points the camera and says "smile!" and because that's a hit-or-miss experience, most people assume they're just not photogenic. So put off headshots and branding, believing that nothing good could come out of it. And even if they do take the plunge, there's a lot of anxiety there. So they arrive thinking that it's their job to know how to look good on camera.

But if you are reading this, I want you to know that it's MY job to coach you into looking confident and approachable.

I'll say that again: it's my job to coach you into doing things with your face that are appealing. Your job is to be good at what YOU do.

Lawyers, lawyer.

Consultants, consult.

Photographers... well, this photographer does more than just snap a shot. I help you build your brand.

Getting a little coffee on this morning for my very first announcement!
I'm excited to finally offer marketing! I have a team of expert marketers to help you attract clients. No more sharing a gallery of photos with your friends on FB or Insta without a strategy to ACTUALLY use them. These are not a bunch of pretty pictures. These are tools!

But how?

Your business rightly centers around your skill/ product and knowing who you want to serve.

But you need more clients.

How can they find you? How do you raise your hand and say "pick me"!?

There's a bit of a gap to overcome.

1. Have a great product/service
2. Price yourself for profit.
3. Create your brand
4. Market

But when it comes to branding your business. It seems like it's about you, right?

Try this on:
Transforming a stranger into a client is about helping them form a bond with you before you even meet. You need to help them reach out to you. And you do this by building a bridge through your brand, then push these brand symbols through your marketing.

A brand is not a logo, colors or fonts scattered across a website and business cards. A brand is just a fancy word for: YOU. It is the symbology that helps them get to know you and trust you: your story, purpose, voice, mannerisms, and brand symbols (like logo, colors, photos, videos, and especially the products you choose to offer).

How do people get to know you? It's about what you say, how you treat them, how they feel when they work with you, and how you present yourself. Who you are should be part of every touchpoint: website, emails, social posts, lead magnet, funnels, videos, onboarding, etc.

Your business doesn't shine with stock photos. Those are a commodity.

People don't don't relate to a commodity. They do business with people.

Saturate your marketing with all the symbols of who you are.

Even though setting up a brand feels self-centered - it's for them. A brand is all about providing stepping stones they need to get from where they are, to you, so you can solve their problems.

So help them find you! Get your brand assets and help them find you through marketing!
