Hey y'all, I figured now is as a good a time as any to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my work & why I do it.
My name is Charlie, I use 'He/They' pronouns, and I love taking photos. Of the local critters (size inclusive of course), of the flowers, and trees in a variety of colors, old brick buildings, tall sky scrapers with huge windows, of fast cars with bright colors, of old cars with character and bold bodies. I love taking photos of the streets, with raw art, polital signs, and the crisis that is homelessness. I love taking photos of joy, love, and laughter. Bright smiles, and quiet eyes, for the q***r community and cultures alike.
Which is why, when I get behind the lens, its about showing the world, and myself, a perspective that is different from the one their privlege allows. And before you say "what privelage?", hear me when I say, privelage is more than fast cars and nice clothes, its driving to work instead of walking, its having a job vs begging for change, its coming home to sleep instead of a park.
Photography means alot to me, because with it, I am able to reach those who normally have their head down when out in the world. I love the way that it gives opportunity to people, places and critters that would otherwise go unnoticed, to be noticed. Lets take the moment when I first started taking photos.
I was no more than 15, with so much going on in my internal and external world. Yet, one day I found myself outside in the early days of spring, captivated by this little white flower growing all alone in my childhood yard. I thought, "How beautful, and how bold to be this litte, and all alone." I took picture of that little flower and think about it often. It inspired me to look closer, to pay more attention to the little things around me.
Fast forward to present day, I am constantly aware of my surroundings, for better or worse. I notice what others might overlook. From a fresh bloom on a magnolia tree, to snails crossing late in the evening. To me, that is its own form of privilege and with it, I choose to share my perspective with the world. because we all deserve to be seen in one way or another.
Now that's my story, and my two cents. I hope you enjoyed and that you stay tuned for more photos and updates. As always, any of the photos I post are for sale via prints, canvases, and many more. Just reach out via my website linked on my page for questions, and or inquires.
