It's Fun Fact Friday! Did you know Michael Jackson and family visited Eufaula? Michael Jackson visited Eufaula, Alabama in 1979 during a family road trip with his brothers to visit his mother Katherine Jackson’s stepfather. Katherine Jackson grew up in the area (Barbour County/Eufaula) before moving to Indiana. During the 1979 trip—which was documented on home video and later featured in archival footage—Michael and his brothers explored local spots, stopped at a Salvation Army store, visited historic colonial homes, and toured the famous Shorter Mansion in downtown Eufaula, where Michael was filmed dancing on the steps. Eufaula will be having the Christmas Home Tour coming up on December 5th, 2026. This is an opportunity to tour different homes that are decorated for Christmas in the Eufaula area. Did you know that Shorter mansion has furniture that was once in the White House? The two green upholstered chairs in the front parlor are from the First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy’s redecoration of the white house. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy led a historic 1961–1963 restoration of the White House, transforming it from a standard presidential residence into a premier museum. These chairs on loan from the white house are from that restoration.
