Catching those brief, fleeting moments where the zoo boundaries seem to fade away and the true essence of the animal takes over. There’s something incredibly grounded about spending an afternoon watching the quiet rhythms of the wild up close.

Swipe through to see a couple favorite frames from my recent work at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo:

📸 1. Kayembe’s Corner – A small vantage point on the stone ridge, watching the world unfold with steady, deliberate eyes. (That toddler energy is unmatched!)
📸 2. Emerald Ancient – Wise eyes framing a slow-motion world, buried deep within a sea of sunlit green.
📸 3. Head Above the Rest – A statuesque silhouette breaks the horizon, keeping a watchful eye over the sun-drenched plains while the rest of the savanna moves behind it.

Which perspective speaks to you the most? Let me know in the comments!

It's been a busy week, but I'm finally able to publish some of the photo's from the arrival of the USS Cleveland last week. This is a fantastic "head-on" shot of the ODNR Parks & Watercraft Cleveland Marine Office leading the USS Cleveland into the Port of Cleveland. The ODNR (Ohio Department of Natural Resources) officer perched upon the bow of their boat adds a perfect human element to the homecoming narrative. As such, the photo is appropriately titled - A Hometown Greeting

Sibling rivalry is the same across every species!

While visiting the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo last week, I happened to be at the right place at the right time. Jackson and Cheyenne were perfectly content lounging in the mulch until a sudden burst of energy turned their enclosure into a wrestling ring. Catching these candid, high-energy moments is what it’s all about. Even the most powerful predators have a playful side.

Imagine a muggy and rainy day...your wet, uncomfortable, tired, and in the middle of no where in July of 1754. Your in the he Virginia Provincial Army, led by then 22 year old Colonel George Washington and encamped in the area of what is now Fort Necessity National Battlefield in southeastern Pennsylvania, and on a mission to build a fort and a military supply road to the forks of the Ohio (modern day Pittsburgh). Then out of nowhere, a force of over 700 French troops and American Indian allies attack.

This is the first trip of my America 250 National Parks tour. A series of National Parks I hope to visit that tell the story of the American Revolution. Visit my photo gallery for this battlefield at https://www.emcphotography.us/National-Parks/National-Military-Park/Fort-Necessity-National-Battlefield. I got a bit lucky tonight. I didn't think the rain and the clouds would allow for this spectacular event to happen. However, after the rain blew threw and the majority of the clouds cleared, the beaver supermoon shines over the Cleveland skyline, illuminates the parting clouds, and shimmer's over the inner harbor of Lake Erie. The name comes from early Native American tribes and colonists, as it was the time of year when beavers began to build their winter lodges.

Battlefield Overwatch

A 12 pound Napoleon smoothbore cannon stands above Antietam National Battlefield, just north of Sharpsburg, Maryland. The cannon is positioned facing southeast from the Visitor's Center and covers the Piper Farm below, as the most northern part of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance.

Congratulations Nancy for purchasing "Marblehead Sunset" while at the Euclid Ohio event earlier this afternoon at Shore Cultural Center. This image is of the Marblehead Lighthouse at the Ohio State Parks Marblehead Lighthouse in Marblehead, OH, basking in the glow of an early spring sunset. These are just some of many landscape images taken at this, and other locations. Thanks for your patronage Nancy. I hope you enjoy this images as much as I did photographing it.
