I have long held a love for the outdoors, possibly cultivated by my childhood years spent growing up and travelling in rural and remote Australia. In my adult years, I began to realise what peace nature and wildlife viewing brings to my heart and soul, especially as a I spent so much time in my other passion, my work with a medical-humanitarian organisation. My passion for photography really start

ed in 2010, following a week in the Shetland Islands, on a ' Photography workshop' focussing on otters and landscapes. I fell in love with the Shetlands and photography, as well as the otters, in no small part thanks to the amazing knowledge, field craft and passion of Brydon Thomason ( Nature) and Dr Richard Shucksmith. With my photography I strive to tell the story of the nature and wildlife I am photographing, as well as convey the feelings it has engendered in me at the time. All my images are available for licensing, or as prints, framed or unframed. To buy prints or to discuss my work, I can be contacted at [email protected]

A visit to Wilson's Prom the other day, with the sole hope of seeing a wombat, paid off! This obliging little fellow was out and about in daylight (even though they're largely crepuscular and nocturnal animals), and he just ignored me and kept munching away on the grass. Wombats are fascinating marsupials. Despite there chunky stature, if threatened they can run up to 40kms/hr, but only for about 90 secs. Their primary defence is their toughened rear hide, with most of the posterior made of cartilage. (Best viewed on full screen) Sharon Bugg

Was delighted to see these wild horses (Brumbies) mare and foal when driving through the High Country of the Snowy Mountains a few weeks ago. I had really hoped to see some Brumbies, but with not a lot of time on my hands had thought it mightn't happen. I couldn't help but have the iconic Banjo Patterson poem "The Man from Snowy River" in my head. (best viewed in full screen)

Distortion, glare and dirty train windows do not make for the finest photos, but nothing can distract from the beautiful scenery of Colarado and Utah, as seen through the windows of the California Zephyr. So fortunate to be on this great transcontinental train journey with Tanya Brookfield

When Tanya Brookfield and I started our trip into Estes Park, Colorado, in the Rocky Mountains this morning, I was trying very hard not to get my hopes up about seeing a Coyote. I knew that the odds were probably less than 50%, but of course in my heart of hearts I had to think it might happen. As our tour through the park was coming to an end it seemed indeed we wouldn't see a Coyote, but we kept looking. Suddenly there was not one but two Coyotes out on the meadow, well spotted by our amazing guide Jared Gricoskie. Jared was fantastic, quickly getting scopes set up and focused so we could see these beautiful animals as they hunted the meadow for rodents. This picture will not win any fine art awards, but to say I am ecstatic to have seen these animals would be an understatement.

The Coyote was at a long distance - this picture taken NikonD810, AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E, with 1.7 teleconverter, picture cropped tight.

An amazing morning spent on tour with Tanya Brookfield and in Estes Park, Colorado. The morning was off to a fabulous start when the Elk we were watching obligingly walked onto the ridge to be back-lit by the brief but stunning sunrise. The stars certainly aligned (best viewed in full screen

From the very north-west of Australia to the very South-east this morning. A couple of months ago I was extremely fortunate to have very generous friends Lindel Cherry, Tom and Wilbur Hall, take me to see the Tarkine Forest, a globally significant cool temperate rainforest. Tasmania has over 95% of Australia's cool temperate rainforest, and the Tarkine covers the largest uninterrupted tract of over 170 000 hectares.

Lovely afternoon out at Cape Leveque. Great food for lunch, followed by some amazing encounters with Humpback whales. This whale breached fully on two occasions, a spectacular experience (and splash as it returned to the ocean), although unfortunately not whilst I had my camera up.
