Some decent color starting to show already in Rocky Mountain National Park as of this morning. These aspens in Beaver Meadows are already well on there way sitting below Longs Peak. Lots of other splashes of color here and there as well. This area typically peaks in late September into early October.

Diamonds are forever. A telephoto view of Longs Peak northeast face. And yes there were climbers on it when I photographed this from the Twin Sisters across the valley.

Subtle signs of autumn starting to creep in here and there in RMNP. Beautiful rose hips on wild roses which are starting to show their fall color. Photographed along the Green Mountain Trail, just below Big Meadows in the East Troublesome burn scar.

On this date, The National Park Service was founded 100 years ago. Admission is free today to any National Park. I spent a beautiful morning at Cub Lake as some light rain showers drifted over Cub Lake and Stones Peak in one of Rocky Mountain National Park's iconic locations. A faint rainbow can be seen on the left hand side of Stones Peak. I am forever grateful people had the hindsight to preserve these spectacular locations for generations to come.

Sunrise from one of Rocky's more subtle but beautiful locations. Big Meadows with Nakai Peak in the distance. Hiking the west side of RMNP gives you the solitude you need on a Monday morning. If you camped at the backcountry site here you probably recognize this location as well.

Most visitors to Rocky are familiar with the view of Hallett Peak from Bear Lake or Dream Lake. It's an impressive slab of granite when viewed from Flattop Mountain as well. The actual summit of Hallet is that small triangular peak in the upper right corner.

Here's an image from earlier in the week to help close out this week. Sunrise above Forest Canyon on Tuesday morning in Rocky Mountain National Park. The grasses will soon start to change to their autumn hues and these kettle ponds often dry up. Cant believe how fast Summer flies by. Happy Friday!.

What a difference a day makes. Monsoonal moisture returned to Rocky yesterday and I setup this morning at a beautiful alpine tarn right at timberline. It was either going to be a very dramatic sunrise or I would get fogged in. Moody it is as the fog and rain enveloped the tarn. Have a great day!
