In June, I was photographing The Nature Conservancy Williamson River Preserve. My camper was parked in an area frequently used by farming equipment. On the second morning while walking to my truck, parked next to the camper, I encountered a killdeer performing its broken wing routine. After sitting in the truck for several minutes, the killdeer returned and settled down on its nest. True to form, the nest was in an area of disturbed dirt and gravel. I was parked five feet from it and luckily had not driven over the four eggs. I moved my vehicle to the other side of the camper, and set up my camera with a CamRanger and iPad to observe the nest.

This year, I added an iPad to my photography equipment. Combining the iPad with a wireless CamRanger attached to the camera, gives me full control of the camera remotely. I can zoom in and out, and pin point focus on the subject with a tap of my finger. Not having to peer through the camera viewfinder for hours while photographing a nest, is quite enjoyable.
