This is a recent poem I wrote about Winston Churchill. He is one of my favorite historical characters and was one of the most influential men in WW2.
WINSTON CHURCHILL
From the quiet halls of Blenheim
To one man’s Finest Hour,
Was the making of a leader
And the breaking of a power.
From the roaring halls of Parliament
To a bloodied foreign shore,
It was Churchill’s voice that carried;
His words had won the war.
Through Dunkirk’s desperate hours
To the battle of Britain’s skies,
It was he who led his people
And broke the N**i lines.
From the trenches of Gallipoli
To the fiercest fronts of France,
He rallied a nation’s courage
When there seemed to be no chance.
His was the voice of courage;
His were the words of belief,
Weary words of a broken man -
England’s greatest commander and chief.
Churchill’s honor was found in the rubble;
His greatness was seen in the trench.
For nothing quite proves the mettle of man
Like hard times and calamity’s stench.
From the Black Cats down in Burma
To the men at Hitler’s door,
Churchill’s voice inspired them -
Those souls who won the war.
He inspired in them a courage
And nurtured a nation with love.
Mankind will never forget that name.
‘Twas a gift from God above.
From the quiet halls of Blenheim
To one man’s Finest Hour,
Was the making of England’s leader
And the breaking of N**i power.
