Watkins Glen Gorge is officially closed for the season and I just want to take a moment to give some love and congratulations to all of my 2026 couples!
The Finger Lakes region is such a magical place for any kind of photo, but we must give credit where it's due. This has to be one of the most incredible places in the world and I feel SO GRATEFUL for being able to explore it, know it and share it with all of you. As a basically certified moody photographer, there are very few places I've ever been that compare to the beauty of the gorges of the Finger Lakes.

As most of you know, I offer Surprise Proposal Planning, which is way more involved than just "we meet here, you pop the question, I take the photo." Which is fine of course, if you prefer!
However, most of my couples come in from out of town, they don't know the area and they are often way too far away to scout the location for themselves. They have real concerns about things like tourism foot traffic and locating perfect spots to ask the most important question of their life. And my couples trust me to answer those questions from experience.

It's just been an incredible season, and I can't wait to go back again in May!!

🎄📸 𝑯𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒚 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐 𝑼𝒑𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆:

This season has been the busiest and best one I’ve had, and I want to start by saying thank you!!!! To everyone who has booked, shared, and trusted me with your families, your pets, and yourselves, it means a lot to me and my small Downtown Elmira business.

Because so many of you asked for a November date, Santa & Mrs. Claus are coming back for one more day: November 22, 11 AM to 3 PM. It’s the last day I’ll take standard and family holiday sessions.

Classic Session | $200
15 minutes, one set, up to 5 people. A short session with a small selection of edited images (10 digitals). A good fit for families, couples, and kids who warm up quickly.

Storybook Session | $350
25 minutes, two sets, up to 5 people. More time, and all of your edited digital images are included. A good fit if your child needs a few minutes to settle in, or if you want to use both the fireplace and kitchen sets.

Holiday sessions for individuals and bo***ir will run through December 6, and that’s the last day I’ll take any holiday session. After that I’ll be building sets for New Year’s, Valentine’s, and headshot refresh season.

My calendar is very full. Between being an organizer and photographer for the Elmira Downtown Tree Lighting, the 70th Annual Downtown Holiday Parade, and Winterfare, a trip to Champions Arena in Milan, Italy in mid-November, and another trip to Vermont this season (watch for a travel notice), I have almost no weekends left. Outside of November 22, I have two weekend dates open in December. If you’ve been thinking about booking, please confirm your time with me ASAP so I can save it for you.

Also, most of you know, but for those who don’t: I no longer post identifiable children’s faces online. This includes my model and test sessions, even if the parents give permission. This is out of safety, love, and respect for your child and your family. If you’d like to see sample galleries with kids in them, send me a message and I’ll share one privately.

Hey friends, today is the last day to vote! I spent all day working, photographing and setting up for a Halloween event! And while I regret not being able to make a legitimate post on the last day, I am so grateful and thankful to be so busy doing what I love to do.

Today I want to talk about the more technical side of what I do: photographing local businesses. Team headshots, brand sessions for small shops and growers, and photos for a website that finally look like the people behind it.

Most small business owners I work with don’t love being in front of a camera, and I get it. I spent over 10 years on that side of it. My job is to make it easy and give you post-able content. When a local business shows up feeling confident and real because they know they are in good hands, it makes the whole region look good, and I I just love being part of that.
Thank you to every business around the Twin Tiers that has trusted me with their faces, their product, their spaces and their brand. ❤

Over the last 20 or so years with a camera in my hand I've given it up a lot. I couldn't picture myself as your standard portrait and family photographer. I understood the art, the hospitality, the care, the experience and the service but not the business.
I'm not here to pretend like I'm any kind of point of authority on how businesses run. You may not know this but 60% of photography studios have to shut down before the end of year 1. That number climbs to 85% after three years.
That statistic turned my stomach at first.. but after a year of working in the studio I've come to realize...

My work ethic is greater than the average. I'm able to learn and willing to change at any given moment. I'm open to trying new things, and I know when it's time to move on a good idea. I prepare for the slow seasons, I plan months ahead while booking into the next year. I pay attention to what I'm doing & I uplift others while doing it. I'm simply not 60% of photographers and that statistic shouldn't hold any power for how I view my success. 📸

Today's fun. Let's talk about failure.
That seems like a silly topic coming from me, whose works regularly see publication, right? Well, the truth is that every session that looks like this is made possible because of my willingness to fail.
Artists and anyone practicing a skill... we have a unique relationship to failure. I think this is a part of the human experience that is so hard but so beautiful.
A few years ago I would have looked at some of these photos and scoffed at how dark the shadows were, I would have bumped up the settings or thrown out the image completely. & I'm so glad for my growth here because can you imagine?

Not only is nearly every one of these photos internationally published in fashion and beauty magazines, but the contrast is what I personally love about them. These are the types of shoots, & this particular use of light brings me so much joy. This is the work I would show my younger self who was struggling with expression as an artist, if I could go back in time. I would have never gotten these shots without letting go of "the rules" and just enjoying creating art with/of another artist.
