Sometimes God answers prayers in the form of the Crunchy mama next door.
It’s no secret that moving 4x in 3yrs was HARD on me as a military spouse. But I didn’t really advertise that it’s been extra hard not really having friends I could mutually invest in, and it was taking a severe toll on my mental health.
I’d been praying for the last 3yrs for a sense of community to help me overcome, and BOY DID HE DELIVER.
When we moved into our home, here in Madison. I met my neighbor Lindsay and her family. She has 2 boys, one my daughter’s age, and we instantly bonded over crunchy things and our faith. It’s been so nice to have a built in friend, the kind you can call randomly and ask for a can of coconut milk, or an orange. The kind that can you walk across the street in pajamas, or pick up each others packages.
No stress, no fuss- just life!
Starting a friendship with her lead to me getting to know ALL of our neighbors in the last year. I feel like I’ve found an entire little community & the difference in my mental health is INCREDIBLE. We feel safe, our neighbor’s daughter babysits our daughter. The kids all run the streets and go to the park, and we actually like running into our neighbors now. I told my husband today it feels like the 90s again with kids running around in each others yards and sprinklers going in the sunset.
Lindsay had been saying for YEARS that she wanted family photos in this little park in our neighborhood with these trees, and of course I wanted to make that happen! And boy I’ve gotta say… the girls got vision because 😍😍😍
All that to say, life is really good here lately.
Even just 3 months postpartum with my second daughter, I’m feeling more emotionally stable and overall content than I’ve been in years. It’s amazing, and it all started with this beautiful soul.
If you’re struggling with your mental health, find one friend, find community, one step at a time- it does get better!!! 💛
