Highlight of this decade? Jas Huver day. It has been such an honor to see this testament to the Lord’s faithfulness, to have a sideline view into Barry & Alyssa’s faith-fight for their daughter. To watch the years of waiting through what seemed like never ending trials and tribulations, to hearing “we HAVE an adoption date!”- all woven into God’s glorious plans & the best is yet to come.

2024 was such a solid, slow year on the doula end of things. Four wonderful births, 3 being unmedicated & quick vaginal deliveries, and 1 being my second time supporting a planned section momma. All, an immense honor to walk with these women and their growing families. My very best friend asked me to be with her as she brought her first baby to the world (will never, ever get over that night💕😭), two dear friends that were both repeats for me (my favs too, and Kalla was my first third-timer!), and a client that got connected through social media, who rocked changed plans and the newness of motherhood.
It would be easy for me to fall into the comparison game in the birth world. It’s so fast paced and high demand, two things that this year and really, this season of my life won’t stand for. We’re unexpectedly expecting baby number four for our little family, and I spent a good part of 2024 in bed sick. I could look back with regrets of not “trying harder” to “make it” here, but what would that say about these sweet moments? So I choose gratitude, for a slow doula year filled to the brim with my very favorite moments. Four or one or none, I did what I had the capacity for to the best of what the Lord has given me, and for that I am so thankful. It really was the best ever!

Held in the warm water by his father as his mother gave birth to her placenta. I love how quiet, dim, and peaceful this moment was…baby was so alert and calm in his dad’s arms. You can see the cord floating in the water too…baby remained connected to his mom and placenta the entire time.

I’m still having a hard time grasping your birth, sweet boy. Even here, ten months later to the day. They whisked him off quickly after Alex handed him to me. It took Jobi an hour to be stable for me to snug him, he wasn’t oxygenating and I can’t describe how that felt in my soul. I’m so grateful he perked up, some mommas have it so much worse, and there’s some who don’t even have their baby today to hold close. But having there to photograph it all was just what I needed to process it all. Thank you Lord for my healthy boy.

There’s no place like home.✨ What can you be doing now to prepare your mind for bringing your new baby home? Make your feeding/rocking/napping space sacred. A string of twinkle lights, favorite book, and portable speaker can make a world’s difference for your mental health. Add a basket of snacks, a thermal mug for your tea or coffee, and a blanket and you are set.
