🫡 Remembering 82 years ago, D-day! Thank you for all who gave!

82 years ago, the world changed on a single morning.

On June 6, 1944, Allied forces launched Operation Overlord, the largest amphibious invasion in military history. Over 5,000 ships carried nearly 160,000 American, British, and Canadian troops across the English Channel toward 50 miles of heavily fortified coastline in Normandy, France. 13,000 aircraft filled the sky. 23,400 paratroopers dropped behind enemy lines in the darkness before dawn.

They landed on five beaches code-named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. Many of them were teenagers. Most of them had never seen combat. All of them knew they might not come back.

By the end of that single day, over 4,400 Allied soldiers were gone. 2,501 of them were Americans. Omaha Beach alone accounted for 2,400 casualties.

General Dwight D. Eisenhower made the call to go despite brutal weather. Before a single soldier hit the sand, he wrote a private letter accepting full personal responsibility if the invasion failed. That letter was never needed. Those men made sure of it.

Only a handful of D-Day veterans are still alive. Their numbers are fading, but what they did on that beach 82 years ago will never fade with them.
