AAIC Visual Perceptions - It's been a busy summer and fall season but we managed to stop by Savage Mill near Laurel this past week for some aerial photos!
The history of this grand mill is extensive and followers are encouraged to Google it to learn more. One notable use of the mill was for Christmas Ornaments! After the mill's closure, Harry Heim purchased it for $450,000 and transformed it into Santa Novelties, a manufacturer of Christmas ornaments. In December 1948, he launched a Christmas Display Village called "Santa Heim" (Santa's Home), which included live reindeer, a one-ring circus, and a miniature train that transported visitors from a parking lot on U.S. Route 1 to the mill. Additionally, a turreted castle was constructed at the intersection of Route One and Gorman Road.
