Celebrating Jodi: A Lesson in Living Loudly
There are some people who walk into your life and completely redefine what it means to be brave, joyful, and utterly unforgettable. For Nancy and I, that person is Jodi.
Jodi has always been the funniest person in the room, the life of the party, and a deeply cherished friend. Recently, facing a terminal cancer diagnosis and entering hospice, Jodi decided she didn’t want a traditional, somber farewell. She wanted to hear the laughter of her loved ones, share the stories, and feel the hugs now. So, she threw a living funeral, a party, a true celebration of her life.
Before the guests arrived, we wanted to surprise her with a little extra magic, a glam portrait session. Look at these photos. Look at that radiant, beautiful smile. Jodi absolutely loved them, and more than anything, she wants these images and her story to inspire others so upon her request, we are sharing....
Jodi’s message is simple yet profound… If you know your time is coming, don't wait to gather. Throw the party. Hug your people. Celebrate while you are still here to experience it.
Right now, Jodi is holding two truths beautifully in her heart. She feels a profound peace and excitement about being reunited with her son, whom she lost years ago. At the exact same time, her heart aches at the thought of leaving behind her incredible daughter, granddaughters, and the fiercely loyal circle of family and friends who adore her.
Capturing this day was one of the greatest honors of my photography career. Jodi teaches us that even in the darkest valleys, we can choose light, laughter, and love. Her gathering gave us memories we will cherish forever.
