This maternity session was all about keeping things simple and meaningful 🤍

Celisa, her husband Jose, and their son Julian met me at Cosumnes River Preserve to capture this sweet season before their family grows. We stayed in one cozy spot, soaked in the soft light, and focused on what really matters — her beautiful bump, their connection, and the excitement of becoming a family of four.

Julian was such a big part of the session. Watching him laugh and wrap himself around his mama was such a reminder that maternity photos aren’t just about the bump — they’re about the family right now, exactly as they are.

These quiet moments before everything changes are always worth remembering.

Spring is such a popular season for portraits, and for good reason.

The light is softer, outfits tend to be more comfortable and versatile, and sessions feel easier without the extreme heat of summer or the short days of winter. Spring offers a beautiful balance that works well for seniors, families, maternity sessions, and more.

Those first weeks with your new baby go by so incredibly fast.

Newborn sessions are designed to be calm, cozy, and baby-led.

You don’t need to prepare anything beyond showing up — I guide everything gently.

Spring babies photograph beautifully with soft tones and relaxed timing.

If you’re expecting this spring, it’s never too early to start planning your newborn session.

Some of my favorite images come from the in-between moments—the laughs, the movement, the little interactions that happen when you’re not focused on the camera.

This session was a great reminder that connection always matters more than perfection. When you’re comfortable and allowed to just be yourselves, those genuine moments naturally shine through.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day isn’t just about couples — it’s about love in all forms. The giggles, the hugs, the way your kids still reach for your hand. Those are the moments worth remembering.

What if we feel awkward or don’t know how to pose?

The good news is—that’s completely normal. Most people feel that way at first.

I guide you through natural movement and simple prompts that help you relax into the session. You don’t need to be photogenic or know what to do. I’ll take care of that part so you can focus on being present and enjoying the experience.

Morgan Sherman Miller | Class of 2026 🎓

Morgan wanted his senior session to feel simple, confident, and true to him — so we kept it clean with one classic outfit and focused on great locations. Old Elk Grove was the perfect fit for the “urban” vibe he described (brick walls, staircases, and downtown textures), and we even tucked in a few cap & gown images to celebrate this milestone.

Morgan, congratulations on your upcoming graduation! It was such a joy photographing you — and getting to work with your family again.

What it’s like to work with me!

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s actually like to work with me, here’s the short version: you’re not doing this alone.

From the first inquiry through your final gallery, I guide you every step of the way—from planning and prep to gentle direction during the session itself. You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do. That’s my job.

My goal is for you to feel supported, prepared, and confident before you ever step in front of the camera.

Newborn Sessions are all about slowing things down.

From the pacing of the session to the way I guide you through each part, my goal is always to keep things calm and comfortable. There’s no rush and no pressure—just a focus on creating a relaxed environment where those sweet, meaningful moments can happen naturally.

Parents are often surprised by how easy and laid-back the experience feels, and that’s always exactly what I aim for.

About Shawn

I am a natural light portrait photographer in Elk Grove California. I am a wife to a very wonderful and patient man, and a mother to two amazing young ladies. From the time I was 13, and was given my first camera, I have been hooked on capturing memories of my family and friends. I have always had a camera growing up, but it wasn’t until I became a mom that it turned into a healthy passion for me. I wanted to make sure that I made my two daughters the most photographed children on the planet, and it fit with my creative passion of scrapbooking. When my husband bought me my first digital DSLR I became obsessed with learning everything I could about photography, my camera, and posing. I attended seminars, workshops, did online courses and, I practiced, practiced, practiced. I began taking photos of other families and friends and was soon asked to do a wedding. This scared the daylights out of me, but it was a huge success which led to me doing 26 weddings. After lots of reflection I realized that weddings were too stressful for me, but I found that I loved doing portrait photography, especially families, seniors and babies. I finally made the decision to turn my hobby into a fun career that gave me the flexibility to be engaged with my family and continue my creative love for photography. Nothing thrills me more than prepping for a session, and then getting there and letting the creative wind take me on a journey with my clients. The fun continues as I go through all the photos and look for just the right ones that showcase the emotion and personality of my new friends. I then take all the photos I have selected and I create a personalized web gallery for my new clients to browse through their photos in the comfort of their own home. I assist my friends in the ordering process to help make it a stress free, and fun time. I work hard to make all the experiences of getting pictures taken to be a pleasant and uplifting journey, and one that will have you sharing your memories with others for decades to come!
