I have been absent from my Photography by Maureen page for quite awhile due to my recovering from an injury to my spine on August 14, 2020 while at work..
After waiting the insurance company approval for treatment for nearly one year, I had spinal fusion surgery June 8, 2021. I immediately developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome after having this surgery, resulting from the damage to my spinal cord, and the surrounding nerves involved at the injury site.
Eighteen months after having my spine fused, the insurance company finally approved the procedure to have a spinal cord stimulator implanted into my spine for pain management.
Prior to the implantation of the spinal cord stimulator on December 4, 2023 I had been in constant excruciating pain which never responded to any of the prescribed medications.
Throughout this time period it had been a constant struggle with the insurance company to receive approval for any medical procedures, and or reimbursement of out of pocket expenses which were incurred as a result of this injury.
As of May 2024 I have improved to the ability of walking very short distances without the aid of my rolator walker.
Prior to that date I required constant assistance for mobility , the use of my heavy duty walker was needed for the ability to safely move about the first floor of my home. I had been placed on a medical do not drive order by my Neuro Spine Surgeon, and not able to return to my place of employment..
My life and the ability to independently function daily in normal daily activities had been drastically impacted from the date of the injury to my spine on August 14, 2020.
This injury has kept me from being able to do any photographic work independently as I once was able to do, or engage in social activities that I had prior to injury.
My plans to develop a photography business had to be put on the way side as a result of this injury, and the fact my ability to freely move about was drastically impacted, and limiting my ability to manage the weight of even holding my camera equipment.
This injury changed my life more than one could image, denying me the ability to be independent, which had impacted my mental well-being considerably. I rapidly became isolated from having the ability to participate in any activities which I had previously enjoyed.
The reality of living a quality of life was now to be determined by an insurance company, which was the most inhumane and demoralizing experience I was forced to endure daily.
I am still in litigation with the insurance company, and presently have been denied continuation of my worker's compensation weekly benefits due to the fact they believe that I am fully capable of reentering the work force.
I presently have medical restrictions which my previous employer has notified me that they are not able to provide me with a position within my workplace which is able to accommodate these medical restriction allowing me to go back to my work place under the American Disabilities Act, which I have applied and documented all medical conditions.
Therefore I am seeking to reestablish myself in the photographic industry at this time. Thus I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to provide my photographic services to anyone in need of a photographer. I really want to get back to taking photographs once again.
My photography business was begun as a side gig while working my position at a Worldwide Fortune 500 company that I will refrain from naming publicly at this time.
The only positive aspect of this time frame has been the fact it allowed me the time for independent learning of new photography techniques, and improve my editing skills. Therefore I look forward to establishing a clientele who I am able to establish a long term relationship with in the coming year.
I would appreciate any and all recommendations of my services to any and all individuals seeking professional photographic services.
If you have read this to its completion I thank you for you time.
Warmly,
Maureen Skawski
