Had to break out the camera today for a little fun in this amazing picture weather! Did you know that overcast days are probably my favorite days to take photos?

Q: Why do you not host mini-sessions?
A: I love creative ideas, and I'm always open to hosting mini-sessions, but I've learned that they only work when they fit real schedules and real interests. Instead of planning a whole event that may not match what people need, I'd rather you come to me with your idea. If you have a theme, a date, or a vision, I'm happy to build something around it as long as I'm available. It keeps the experience personal, flexible, and centered on what you actually want. And we can make it a short mini-session if that is what you want.

Speaking of which...anyone want to schedule a photography Couple's Date Session or an Anti-Dating Session for this month?

Q: Why do you focus so much on candid photos at events?

A:
Because events are living, breathing stories — and stories don’t happen in straight lines.

I don’t want to capture people standing stiffly in a row, waiting for the camera (but I’ll take these, too). I want the laughter, the dancing, the hugs, the quiet moments, the chaos, the joy, the things you didn’t even know happened.

Like the kids playing an impromptu football game between the ceremony and the reception.
Or the best friend fixing your hair.
Or the elderly couple holding hands.
Or the kitten someone snuck into the reception

Those are the moments you’ll treasure.
Those are the moments that tell the truth.

I’m not just photographing an event.
I’m preserving the heartbeat of it.

Q: Why do you ask clients to bring props or personal items?

A:
Because your passions tell your story better than any backdrop ever could.

When you bring something meaningful — a book, a guitar, a uniform, a pet, a hobby, a keepsake — it gives your hands purpose and your heart comfort. Even if the prop photos aren’t the ones you end up framing, they help you settle into the session faster.

Props are grounding.
They give you something familiar to hold onto.
They help you feel like yourself.

And honestly? They make the session more fun.
I love seeing what people bring because it tells me who you are without you having to say a word.

Your photos should feel like you, not like a template.

Q: Why are your sessions so long compared to other photographers?

A:
Because people need time to breathe.

The first 20 minutes of any session are usually awkward — and that’s okay. You’re getting to know me, I’m getting to know you, and your nerves show in the photos. I don’t want your “camera face.” I want your real smile, your real laugh, your real self.

I’m trained in mental health, self‑defense, and special education. I’m a teacher by day and a martial arts instructor by night. I understand anxiety, sensory needs, and the importance of pacing. We can take breaks. We can stop early. We can adjust anything you need.

This extra time also allows you to change outfits, travel to other locations, and try something new and different or showcasing multiple interests. The longer session gives us plenty of time so no one feels rushed.

My sessions are long because comfort takes time — and comfort is what makes the photos beautiful.

This isn’t me, but it’s one of my previous math students. I do this part time, but she has a dream of becoming a full time photographer. So if my style doesn’t fit your vision, consider her for your photography needs.

Q: Why do you tell every client that they are beautiful?

A:
Because they are.
Every single person who steps in front of my camera brings a story, a history, a personality, and a spark that deserves to be seen.

I don’t chase perfection. I chase connection.
We talk, we laugh, we try silly ideas, and sometimes I end up in ridiculous poses just to get the shot. Some ideas work beautifully, some don’t — but the joy is always real. And joy transforms a person. It softens them, opens them up, and reveals the beauty that was there all along.

You’re not just a client. You’re a person. And people deserve to feel seen.

My New Year’s resolution is to post more. What better way than to explain to you who Real Behl Photography really is?
So each week, I’m going to try to post a Q&A.

Today’s is:

Q: Why did you choose “Real Behl” as your name?

A: Well, for one, I believe that memories are really important, and I love capturing what is important for real people. I believe that photos shouldn’t be a luxury, so I keep my prices affordable for real people like you and me.
And secondly… it rhymed. 😂

Pulled over today to capture this beauty today. It did not disappoint!!! While waiting for it to fly a loop again, a deer ran by, and I snapped a picture of a cardinal and a sheep. Such a lovely start to the day.
