We were simply exploring a local sunflower field when the light, the landscape and this unmistakably him expression came together for a magical moment.
Meaningful portraiture doesn't always need to be carefully arranged. Rather, it requires the ability to recognize what is unfolding - and the experience to shape light, composition and connection in the instant before it passes.
The result may feel thoughtfully planned. The truth is even better: it was real.
There are more portraits from this afternoon waiting to be refined, but this one felt ready to be held onto now - a small piece of who my son is in this chapter of his life.
Sometimes, the most intentional-looking portraits begin with nothing more than being present enough to see them.
