I am wife to a video game-loving software developer, mommy to a 9-year-old future NASA engineer, youtuber, and taekwondo master. I am a morning-challenged former ballerina with a raging sweet tooth, a frequent wearer of sweatpants and humorous t-shirts, a TJ Maxx/Ross/Marshall’s shopping addict, a tea drinker, and a lover of sweater weather, warm fuzzy socks and blankets, cute fluffy animals, and

snugs from my kiddo. I am an Oklahoma City-based photo artist and photo art designer specializing in custom family and kids portraiture and fashion-inspired senior portraiture with the purpose of creating stunning high-end photo décor for my client’s homes. Although I first started my photography career in 2004 as a wedding photographer, my love of creative portraiture blossomed after the birth of my daughter in 2013. My absolute favorite sessions are with growing families (families with young kids) because I LOVE “perfectly imperfect” family portraits…portraits that go beyond traditional posed photos and preserve moments of playfulness, joy, love, laughter, silliness, and togetherness.

My husband is always such a good sport when I need someone to help me test out new lights, backgrounds, and light modifiers. 😊 In this shot, I was testing a new parabolic umbrella I recently got (parabolic is code for “absurdly giant” umbrella 🫣😅).

Anyone else have to pay their kid to get their photos taken? My 12-year-old just convinced me that she should get $8 for posing for 30 minutes of test portraits so I could try out a new light modifier and background. I guess whatever works, right? 😂

I wanted to give my new pink backdrop a test drive, so I wrangled my husband into taking some headshots of me for my new personal brand . I positioned the lights, set the camera and light settings, and had him pre-pose for me so I could get things set the way I wanted and show him what kind of framing I was looking for. It took some time, but he did such a good job! Here’s one of my fave shots…because it definitely says “sweets lover.” 😅🍩

No one PREFERS to gather around a small laptop or cell phone screen to admire family photos. And some moments are too meaningful, cute, or beautiful to live on a screen. Wall space is just home decor potential waiting to be filled with your photos of love, laughter, core memories, and the faces you adore most.

I don’t do a ton of photography with studio-type lighting set ups, but yesterday, I wrangled my husband into shooting some new headshots for my new The Modern-ish Mom personal brand, and I have a couple of Godox AD200pro flashes and a few different MagMod light modifiers, and holy moly, i will definitely have to use them more because they were awesome…especially together! So quick and easy to set up and take down. And big shout out to Wescott Lighting for their X-drop Pro Stand! Made setting up a backdrop so quick! And when I’m working in the itty bitty entryway in my home, easy set up and take down is soooooo nice!

I'm excited to be adding a new social media venture called THE MODERN-ISH MOM. It will ride alongside the personal branding part of Tara Lokey Photography, showcasing local mom bosses as well as entertainment and educational content to help mom bosses succeed while giving them a good chuckle. It's all still very much in the baby stages since it just launched, but I hope to build up the content over the next couple of months.
