Violet Hensley led a remarkable life playing and making fiddles. She passed away last week at age 109. These photos are from her induction into the National Fiddle Hall of Fame in 2018. She was a fixture at Silver Dollar City Missouri for decades.

Lyons Colorado hosted the 54th annual RockyGrass Festival July 24-26 with a three-day total attendance estimated at 13,500 music fans.

Got to photograph one of my favorite musicians of all time, Sam Bush, Saturday evening at the RockyGrass in Lyons Colorado while covering the festival for Bluegrass Today. Look for the photos on their site sometime this week.

They joined Sam Bush and his band for Shuckin’ The Corn last night at RockyGrass to close out another festy day.

What a great festival RockyGrass 2026 is. My first time and I’m impressed with the organization and attention to detail Planet Bluegrass, the town of Lyons, and volunteers have in putting it on. Love the focus on sustainability, including the use of reusable plates by the food vendors.

Performers are great, setting is the best. Lots of families with young kids and old folks too.

Heading back for day 2 soon. I’ll be providing photos early next week for Bluegrass Today.
