While staying in Ragusa Ibla, Sicily, one of our day trips was to a lovely historic winery, managed by the same family for six generations. While at the winery, in addition to photographing, we were treated to a catered lunch along with wine pairings. The chef was larger than life and was so animated and fun. She looked like an iconic character in a children's book series. Delightful. And, wow could she cook! Great memories. Here are a few of the images I captured that day.

This is the third and final set of images taken during our time in Ibla and Ragusa Ibla in southeastern Sicily. I'm still working my way through all of the images taken this past fall during our photography trip. I'll be posting other locations later this week, perhaps tomorrow. I hope you are enjoying a glimpse of beautiful Sicilia. We became charmed right away.

During our time in Ibla and Ragusa Ibla, I was drawn to this beautiful old church, Santa Maria delle Scale (St. Mary of the Stairs). To get to the church, you feel like you are on a stair climber. Then, the stairs of the church number 340. But, the climbing and huffing and puffing is worth it since the terrace beside the church is THE best place to photograph panoramic views of Ragusa Ibla. I posted night shots yesterday. Today, I'll include an image taken during the day, on our second visit between classroom time. The great thing about our second visit: the priest was inside. Kyle had worn shorts that day, so out of respect, he stayed outside. I was the only other person in the church for most of the time. The priest studied me for a while, and then quietly pointed out some not-to-be-missed things, like the original frescos above the original baptismal (which was gated off but could be seen). When I told him I should probably go since my husband was outside (because he'd worn shorts), he insisted that Kyle come in; then, he went to the door to beckon him inside. So, we both received a wonderful private tour. Later, when we left, he followed us outside and called us back inside to show us one more thing. Then, once outside again, he showed us beautiful Gothic pieces of the original church, originally built in the 13th-14th century. They are shown in these images. These special moments in this church with this priest are why I love Italy so much and why I cherish experiences like this. Enjoy these images. More from this special place in Sicily tomorrow.

One of my favorite stays in Sicily was in the town of Ibla, which usually refers to Ragusa Ibla, the beautifully preserved old town of Ragusa in southeastern Sicily. We based out of here for four nights and took some days trips as well. But exploring Ibla on foot (stair master) was one of my favorite things about Sicily. Here are a few images. More tomorrow.

Here's set two from the Island of Ortigia, Sicily. Some of these feature ICM (intentional camera movement). Yes, I know that at least one of you, and perhaps more, hates ICM, but it was part of our assignment for the workshop. During our stay, there was a music festival on the island. Colorful flags were hanging in several of the streets to promote the festival. I thought they made great subjects for ICM. Other images were taken from a boat ride during our first evening there. Enjoy a taste of Sicily.

The Island of Ortigia is connected to Sicily's mainland by short bridges. Known for its ancient Greek history and Baroque architecture, it has stunning waterfront views and charming pedestrian streets. We stayed there for three nights and spent time exploring, which also included a boat ride for our group. Tomorrow, I'll post some views taken from the boat ride the first evening after our arrival. Here are a few photos. Note: included in this set is my dear Italian friend, Mauro, who works as a tour expert for
Italy Workshops and also has his own tour company. If you ever want a guide while in Italy, he is amazing and an all around wonderful human.

Some delayed posts are forthcoming from our trip to Sicily in September/October. This first set is from the beautiful Baroque town of Noto, in Southeastern Sicily. Noto is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is famous for its honey-colored limestone buildings, elegant churches and for its relaxed Mediterranean vibe. More from Noto tomorrow. Ciao.

This is not the typical big photo landscape, but instead captures tiny, delicate details in these bell-shaped blooms found in the massive temperate rainforest of Olympic National Park. These are called the twinflower, technically Linnaea Borealis, the favorite flower of scientist Carl Linnaeus, who created the modern system of naming species. These are printed on a 16 x 16 premium fine art canvas, signed, and ready to hang.
