In 2023, I was blessed with the rare opportunity to observe something that few humans have ever observed with their own eyes: the impact of Earth's curve on astronomy.
Throughout human history, explorers could observe the impact of the earth's curve by traveling thousands of miles over the span of months to the north or south of where they live. Today, we have the blessing to observe this same phenomenon by taking a quick flight a few hours and observing the night sky over the span of a couple nights.
As captured here, you can see how the stars "rise" differently between my home in Colorado and my trip to visit Hawaii. What's so fascinating about this is I was about 20º apart (north to south) from where I live and where I visited in Hawaii.
I think this has to be one of the most fascinating elements of astronomy. It is amazing to be able to travel across the earth (north to south) to see different stars and constellations, and to see your own constellations in different positions in the night sky.
