"El Capitan Reflection and Ice Stars". I had to carefully walk out onto the partially frozen Merced River, in the Yosemite Valley, with my tripod to catch this stunning reflection of El Capitan with the ice and incredible little stars that grew out of the ice itself. While everyone is looking up at this 4000 vertical feet of granite, I like to see the little things juxtaposed against the massive rock in front of me. This is a perfect example of what happens when we learn to see more than what's obvious, learning to seek out the special fleeting world often missed when we only focus on what's right in our face, or only the things that overwhelm our senses. My upcoming book, the working title "The Art of Seeing" will explore ways to expand our way of seeing into new and exciting realms.

"Roussion Street". A glorious relic of natural pigments mined locally on stone and brick buildings. It's everything I love about traveling in Europe, the ancient stones and color, the layers of texture and embodied history. It's hard to find this in the United States! We're going to Europe in May, so look out for more travel images.

It's an "Erratic" boulder, evidence of the glaciers that slowly scoured this alpine valley during the last ice age, moving rocks from far away, and when the glacier retreated during the big melt, it left behind evidence of their action, along with the glacial polish in the foreground. This is in the high country above Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite National Park. I love the juxtaposition of the fluffy clouds and the white rock, placed deliberately in the middle. Sometimes you have to break the "rule of thirds" rule.

I came across this incredible window in Cesky Krumlov, in the Czech Republic. None of my work is Photoshopped. This is a reflection of a window of a storefront, full of a jumble of old textural musical instruments. In the background is the cobble stone street and old buildings behind me. Clavey "O" Reflection. I never tired of this secret spot on the Clavey River in my old stomping grounds in the Sierra Nevada Mountains near Yosemite National Park. The scoured pools made spectacular reflection potential along the granite and flowing water. Here, I was on my belly with a backpacker tripod and ultra-wide angle lens which afforded me a large depth of field and wonderful juxtaposition of foreground reflection in the pool against the jutting granite and river.
