Neanderthal Photography

Neanderthal Photography Hello! I'm a landscape and wildlife photographer. I do offer outdoors and at home photo sessions along with any special events.

I have been fascinated with photography since I was young. From throw away Kodak film cameras to Nikon Coolpix digital cameras, I took my family and vacation photos. I am a Veteran of 23 years and served 2 tours overseas. I have also held a 100-ton Captain's license and recently drove trucks for 17 years. I started as a hobby photographer in late 2016 with a Nikon 3400. I consider myself a landsca

pe and wildlife photographer, but I enjoy exploring other genres also. In 2021, I retired from truck driving to pursue my photography career. I do kayak tours and workshops/photography lessons as well as my prints. I also do family/individual portraits. If you're interested in seeing my work, I have a gallery set up in my home. Call me @ 410.200.8339 for an appointment.

"Unknown2"

Last Sunday, Tammy and I went out to Claiborne Landing to watch the ice boats. There were 4 covered up and one running when we got there around 1pm. This one was the fourth one to get back out there and challenge the high winds. I don't know who it was, but I heard he had bought this ice boat 5 days before. Looks like it was money well spent!

"Ice Dancer"

Last Sunday afternoon, Tammy and I went out to Claiborne Landing to see if the ice boats were out. There were 4 boats all covered and 1 running when we arrived. "Ice Dancer" couldn't resist going back out again later on. I don't know who owns the boat, but I believe Shane is the pilot in these shots. Enjoy!

"Unknown"

Last Sunday, Tammy and I went out to watch the ice boats at Claiborne Landing. We were not disappointed. This orange ice boat joined "Spirit of Oxford" in race around the cove. She was fast and the skipper made it look easy zipping around the cove. I didn't get a chance to talk to him, so if anyone knows who it is, point him to this post.

"Spirit of Oxford"

While there were several ice boats present last Sunday when we arrived, only "Spirit of Oxford" was still running. Ron Cutts, of Cutts and Case Shipyard, was giving rides to anyone willing to go. I learned that he built this ice boat himself a number of years ago and loves going out on it. It was the only boat I saw that could take two people on. I'm not a sailor, but I would love to give these a try sometime.

Fun at Claiborne Landing

Tammy and I went out this past Sunday (the windiest day of course). We went for the ice boats that had been there the last two days. What we found was this...winter wonderland and family fun! Kids and adults doing hockey drills, figure skaters and sleds. And some fun with a tarp! It was a great day to watch everyone enjoying the first freeze in a very long time. Although, I went on the ice, I had no desire to get on skates! 😁

I went out early Sunday looking for snow scenes. I hit a few places at around 0730, thinking nobody would be up as it was still snowing. For the most part, I was right. The one place I had in mind had already plowed and a car in front of me headed into the place. What are you doing awake?!!
Anyway, I headed to St Michaels and Tilghman Island for some water scenes. It was starting to sleet mostly although about 5" of snow was on the ground already...and the wind was HONKIN'. Fun times! Here are a few of my favorites.

Thank you to The Artist's Gallery in Chestertown, MD for inviting me to show in their gallery. I'm honored to be the second photographer to hang on your walls!

Come see my display in person, this picture doesn't do it justice. I print all of my art and 3 out of the 5 frames were built by me.

My Honey and I made it to Outstanding Dreams Alpaca Farm for their open house this past weekend. It is never a bad time to sit in a field surrounded by alpacas. They are curious, except when they have a cria! If you get a chance, set up an appointment to go see them!!!

"Layers of Texture"
This image was take at on a March 2025 afternoon. As the sun was setting, I saw the different layers and knew I had to capture the image. The colorful clouds, the tree with the reeds in front all have different textures that bring the image all together. Enjoy!

"Weathered"
Bent, but unbroken. The windswept marshland of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge is harsh for a single tree. But it took many years for this tree to become bent from the ravages of storms that sweep across this open ground.
I captured this image on a windy and cold February day in 2025 at sunset. The colors in the sky are what we call "Venus' Belt". The colors usually appear as the sun begins to set and is the reason for the phrase "as you set up for your picture, always look behind you. The best scene may be there." Enjoy!
