Town of East Hartford, CT – Government Official page for the Town of East Hartford. Mayor Connor S. Martin. The east side of the Connecticut River was at that time part of Hartford.

The part of the land Known as East Hartford was once inhabited by the Podunk Indians, in 1635 the town saw its first permanent colonists when Thomas Hooker and his followers came from Cambridge, Massachusetts to found Hartford. Initially settled about 1640, early settlers included William Goodwin, Thomas Burnham and William Pitkin. The first petition by residents to establish a separate Town aprt

East Hartford is getting safer, smoother rail crossings!

Two railroad crossings will be replaced this fall through the Connecticut Department of Transportation's Rail Freight Infrastructure Program:

📍 Park Avenue: September 24–25
📍 Burnham Street: October 1–2

Both crossings will be closed for two days while crews install new track infrastructure and repave the roadway. Detours and advance signage will be in place, and the Town will share additional traffic information as it becomes available.

The short-term inconvenience will deliver 20+ years of safer, smoother passage for trains and vehicles.

Thank you for your patience as we make these important infrastructure improvements!

WONDERING WHAT’S NEXT FOR BREWER HOUSE?

If you’ve driven by the Historic Brewer House and Hockanum Hall lately, you may have noticed some construction happening on site.

Here is what’s taking shape!

Public Works has removed the existing sidewalk and curbing to prepare the area for the contractor to begin forming and pouring the new sidewalks, walkway and curbing leading to the Historic Brewer House and Hockanum Hall.

What’s next? Concrete work and paver installation are expected to continue through the end of September, barring any significant weather delays.

These new and improved walkways will create a safer and more accessible route for residents and visitors to access these historic properties.

Stay tuned as we continue to elevate East Hartford!
